YES ! - I found it yesterday - now I can start a collection and not feel guilty  bigrin

Someone asked me to do another guitar song with vocal.
I tried "Love Me Tender" with my spruce / mahogany SD-50.....did not sound right.

..tried it on my Pavan TP-30 cedar / rosewood.....did not sound right.

Last resort, picked up my 25 year old Takamine 132s  cedar / rosewood.....YES ! - it sounds 'right' to my ear.  bigrin

The spruce / mahogany was too bright and metalic I think.
The Pavan is brighter and louder than my Takamine.

The Tak had that cedar / rosewood sound and was more mellow and soft - perfect for the soft love balland.

I had plan to sell my old Tak but now I think I'll keep her.

So, as a singer I can see I need more than one guitar - it all depends on the song I'm singing.

I quess you experienced guitarists / singers already knew that

Some day I think I will add a smaller, rosewood steel string to my collection.

Each and every guitar has its song. Or is it each song has its guitar? Fact is, one can never have too many guits...

This is new to me... I didn't know we needed a reason (laff)

Seriously, I've whittled the axe collection down to just a few. I do miss the others, and they came in handy for situations such as you describe. But, realistically, I couldn't justify not playing the majority.

+1
I have been telling people that for years... and I still doubt that they believe it - but it's absolutely true!

Having more than one guitar over the last couple of months has improved my playing and understanding because they are rarely tuned the same.  At present one is tuned to DADGBD and one to CGCFCE.  It is so much fun playing with altered tunings, but it is a pain to retune for each song.  Now I leave one tuned for the song I am working on as my primary goal, and the other for everything else.  If I had 3 guitars, they would all be in different tunings.

I can't recall who it was who suggested it to my, but thank you, it is brilliant!

4. If you use open tunings a lot, you could have one for that and perhaps put thicker guage strings on it for better tone when tuned down.  :flatlander

1) Set them both on guitar stands in different tunings so that you can easily switch back and forth. Put them back in the case when you are done for the day. I played my OM-35 last night, my D-35 this afternoon and am playing my parlor tonight.

Teh and I will split the adulation. Glad it's working out.

Ok Larry if you must know, I like finger pickin', so 3 of my gits are fitted with lights and ex-lights, then I have one capoed and with open 'G' tuning which I use on a song by Fleetwood Mac. Then I have 4 fitted with custom lights, lights and meds, D'addario and Elixirs for strumming only. Then I have 2 fitted with nanos for my riffs and blues music and one still at a shop fitted with God knows what strings.

The reason is because my Larrivee does not like the firepit at camp site =)

You know i totally believe this matter of different gits make songs "shine" I have experienced this many times. My Martin just doesn't sound quite right,  the gibson or Lakewood or etc. won't fit the bill.
And you guessed it... most of the time it's the F-III "HOG"IS, that cuts thru all the mystery and delivers the goods.
But sometimes it's an old Harmony ;-)

Try this its worked for guy's that collected vintage guitars{it also helps if your at that midlife thing everyone's always talking about}

"Honey I could be into expensive sports cars and younger women BUT I only have eye's for you and a few dozen guitars" drool

If this doesn't work my I suggest a good pair of running shoe's and an unmarried friend with a spare room. whistling
