The last couple of years have been a real experience. 2 years ago, I decided to start playing open mics again, trying to get gigs...etc. after a 5-6 year break from it...had kids, got married, the usual. Then, a little over a year ago, I decided I'd try recording my handful of tunes and maybe, just maybe, put out a cd...give the music business a shot.

Last September, I went in to a local studio and recorded my cd. Then it was the mastering, ISRC codes, copyright, then duplication, then shipping them off to CD Baby, waiting for them to put it up on their site...and finally, signing up for digital distribution.

Well, I've been checking iTunes regularly and this morning, I found myself on their site. Wow..what a weird feeling!!!

I tried www.itunes.com/denisturbide and there I am!!! Like I'm a real musician or something!!!

CD Baby is great that way.  You'll be on eMusic too, and various obscure European download sites.  And as far as I can tell (from my partner Jeanette, who is is on CD Baby), they're very good about keeping track of your downloads and paying your royalties.

BTW, I got your CD late this week.  Haven't had a chance to listen yet but I'm looking forward to doing so this weekend.  I already know I'll like it.

Congratulations Denis!!!

I've read and listened to a lot of your posts over the years and you were a real musician way before you got onto itunes.  Not only are you a great musician, more importantly, you're a great person.

Thanks for sharing so much over the years.

Thanks Dave.  It was, and still is, a lot more work than I'd ever imagined!  You put all this effort into the recording and duplication and the cover art...and when it's all done, you have to start promoting it whenever and wherever you can.  I've recently joined Soundclick, MusicSubmit, SonicBids...I'm on Taxi, MySpace, YouTube, here, UMGF, AGF...and I still feel like no matter how much I put into it, it isn't enough!

Thanks again for the kind words.

Wonderful sound Denis - it's just like having the acoustic in front of me!  The studio & mastering did you right

I find it astonishing, though, that places like iTunes classify you as "folk" music.  Well of course, "folks like me" love this, but isn't it time the music industry realized that people playing great instrumental and/or acoustic-based music don't have to be either "blues" or "folk"...

I'd say what you're doing is fantastic, reminds me a lot of Doug Smith (fingerstyle guitar winner at Winfield 2 years ago)... iTunes classifies him as either folk or classical depending on the album

I just checked and I'm now on Amazon!

CD Baby rocks!  They sent my music to 10 different online music retailers.  iTunes, Amazon, Napster and Rhapsody are the better known sites they sent my tunes to.  I have no idea if I'm actually making any money but just being up on these sites is still kinda surreal!!!

Dennis, you are pretty good for a Hab, even though the B's are my team.  I downloaded all your songs to my ipod, very nice.  Good luck with sales.

Yeah...this is fun and it's easy to get discouraged.  I do it almost daily.  Who knows where this will get me, if it gets me anywhere at all... but yeah, it is fun

Denis

I bought your EP off of I-Tunes and it is great.  I am impressed with the clean sound you get (no string noise, etc).  I really like all of your tunes.

Are you still offering free tabs of Samuel and After the Battle?  If so, how can I get them from you?

Thanks.

Hey Denis,

I've had the cd for several weeks now,
Beautiful music, great playing,
The night the cd arrived, put it in the player for the drive home from work,
evening hours and raining, really set the backdrop for the tune After The Battle.

So, inquiring minds want to know

When can we expect more tunes from you?

Thanks again for the kind words Nort.  I am hoping to get at least a couple more tunes released this summer.  With iTunes and CD Baby, releasing one song at a time is not very complicated.

Right now, I'm looking forward to this Sunday when I will be on French Canadian radio.  Kind of excited about that!  I'm hoping it will lead to more exposure...

I know many of you don't speak or understand French but if you're interested:

http://www.radio-canada.ca/REGIONS/Ottawa/radio/bontedivine.shtml

and my segment is supposed to air between 5:45 and 6:00 pm Eastern time on Sunday March 8

Cheers
