Question about the FG III pictures.

The finish looks glossy. Is it because the paint is still wet?

ricky

No. The caption says that's the basecoat, they will be sanded and sprayed with a satin finish.
That basecoat may be glossy but it sure isn't smooth, take a close look and you can see the orange peal finish.

I wouldn't mind getting the base-coated guitar... I like the glossy look  :whistling:

Plus... me things  less finish = less resistance for the top to vibrate..
IIRC John Lennon and George Harrison sanded down their Casino's to make the finish thiner.. :)

but, I'll leave it to the masters! Can't wait till get the guitar!

I thought it would be fun to add a little to the excitement going on around here.

I PICKed out something that Jim says he can include in the guitar cases.  I even took a PICKture! :bgrin:

Three guitar picks for each of the forum III guitars coming your way.

I am getting excited...can you tell?

We have pics and hats???

For those direct ship customers in Canada, will Jim be able to tuck the picks in the hat for us?

Thanks!

The picks are really smart!  I always thought it was a nice tough that you get branded pics with Larrivee guitars.  I got white ones with my 03, and nice tortoiseshell ones with my 09, I guess that is standard procedure.  They were all in my pocket a few weeks back and I put my trousers in the washing machine, so they don't say Larrivee any more.  D'oh!

The pearl ones look great though.

Thank you Matt/Jim

I was wondering about that myself and briefly thought - "Wait!  Just leave mine like that!"   :bgrin:

But, as someone else mentioned, you can see the "orange peel" action.  No good.

Adam

Thanks Matt
It just keeps gettin' better   :thumb

Thanks, nice picks. A little touch of class. :donut

   You gotta be kiddin.

Nope.  I said it earlier - for me, a little HB goes a looong way.  If I was kiddin', I would have ordered mine with extra HB.

Well some folks just need glasses I guess. Or to take off the tinted ones.
That herringbone on Tuffy's 000-50 which I saw in person was great, and from these pictures the herringbone contrasted with the white IS tops looks far from cheesy to me.
Martin made many models in this way in the 20's on up to WW II and then reintroduced some. I'm not up on which ones. But all I've seen are nice traditional looking gits.
I will admit at first I would have gone for abalone and a standard border of maple. But after seeing thes pictures I am "very happy" that I chose the purfling as well. I really think it's a classy look.

Re: the finish -

All finishes are essentially glossy unless a flattening agent is added to it. The flattening agent generally makes the finish a little less durable ( and usually a little less transparent ). Any good satin finish is layer(s) of gloss undercoat, with satin applied as the last top-coat. That gives you the strength and transparency of a gloss finish, with the "reflective qualities" of satin.

While the build seems so fast, the final details of finishing always seem to take so much longer. Of course these new UV cured materials offer so many advantages initially, but I have no personal experience with them -

I knew I left something off the pick design.  These picks are even sweeter!  (no...this is not really what they look like...see the original photo for that)

So "to each his own" but those who differ from your opinion need to "take off their tinted glasses?"

Got it...
