Norman- great song ! I've always liked Pauls way of playing. Is his "Sebastian" the one that was stolen & years later recovered ?

GeeNorm,

After spending a bit of time reading Paul's web page I thought folks might want to see what Sebastian the 12string looked like.

It is apparently called a casket guitar....

Thank you, Randy. I had never seen a picture of Sebastion before, nor had I heard about casket guitars.

In retrospect, it was Paul's guitar that was stolen & eventually recovered. OOPS ! blush  That is one funky looking guitar. A Martin player found a beat up body, cut it in half, put a neck on, & claims it plays great ! I wouldn't doubt him after seeing "Sebastian". Nice find, Randy.

Messed up again. Sorry. It was Peter's guitar that was stolen.

Ok, other than working in my new D-18 I've found some new FIII-Wait-Syndrome (F3WS) coping mechanisms in the form of an Indigo Books gift certificate. I strolled over with one of my many unclaimed gift certificates from Christmas and found an interesting book called Clapton's Guitar. It's a blow by blow account of Wayne Henderson building Clapton's two OM models. There's plenty of wood-porn (in the story form) and some interesting insights into the world of a small luthier. I can't think of a better way to pass the time when I'm not playing the herd. I'll post a review when I get through it; hopefully it will give me something to do other than clicking "refresh" on the UPS tracking page.  wacko

I also grabbed a scales book but I somehow doubt anyone would find that interesting.

Have you read Guitar Man? it's a great history of the guitar interspersed with his being made. Plus, he's anti abalone as is the luthier, how exciting for me,lol. I am reading 'The Rest is Noise' which would be even better if I understood music theory because the book references it heavily while relating the history of music in the twentieth century.

I just finished that part about classical music and the impact Stalin and Hitler had which sent me to Shostakovitch and Stalin which lead me to Young Stalin. Theres also a book by Oliver Sacks who right on obscure psychological disorders that concerns musical well, disorders, I guess. people who see in color and how it effect their playing.

There is a disorder where everything is suddenly off tone and one that is really fascinating where a certain song associated with memory will cause the listener to hallucinate that memory and how some are loath to be cured. that's next on the list.

I'm waiting on the books on alternate tuning. On is a basic and the other is Scots music. Got the Simon and Patrick back and it's really a lovely little guitar. They did a great job on the crack in the lower bout and the crack down half the lower fretboard that I missed.

Oh, and I also sold my Guild and  Parlor and am buying Jim's L 03 Bubinga.

Ahem.

Gonna admit folks... I let "the wait" get to me the last few days. Yes, you heard it here.

On a slightly different note, which is what got me thinking about "the wait", I almost canceled my order for my Rickenbacker in a crazy moment or three days of weakness. However, I'm back on board and will continue to annoy all of you who are finding the Larrivee wait far TOO long!

A recession is when your nieghbor is layed off. A depression is when YOU are layed off.

Quite true. On that note, I woke up to the news on the radio this morning that the Ontario Hospital Association (which governs the hospitals in this province) has said that there will be major lay offs in all hospitals in the province. I just bought my first house and the mortgage is dependant on my salary. CRAP, CRAP, CRAP!

Yeah, because what Ontario really needs is to have LESS people in health care and more out-of-control government spending.  wacko

I can't find a doctor at home and my 27-year old friend is out of the country because the traditional treatment for his life-threatening cancer was not available in Ontario.

Ok, I'm done ranting. I hope everything is ok with your job.

Hey, it's not money if you sell stuff you have already.....  besides, at least I'll have something to sell if (God forbid) it comes down to that. I got really lucky in that my Guild brought a fair price.

We are so, so tight, I spent twenty minutes looking at what cereal was the cheapest yesterday, but we are still so blessed compared to so many others. I was conflicted, don't get me wrong, but in the end the actual cash wouldn't have made much of a difference. We aren't 'there'  yet and God willing, won't be.

Lynda, I'm thinking good thoughts. Hope the layoffs don't affect you. A big plus is a good paralegal has a pretty good chance of finding a job, maybe? Down here for sure. maybe you should move.

Holly,

Well, being a law clerk/paralegal does mean that I can move around; however, that being said, there are only a couple of other hospitals that have in house counsel. Therefore, my ability to move with the current experience I have may not be so easy. I have run into many brick walls in my career that if I hadn't worked in a particular area, well they weren't even willing to look at me. We will see. I will stick it out here. I may or may not be affected.

The guitars are started. I received the following information from Jim Holler:
-----
I spend about an hour on the phone with John Jr. Larrivee today. The
guitars have been started all the wood is selected and going into build. The
first batch is expected the week of March 16th. I am looking at flights to
go out that week. We are going to offer a Forum III factory tour some day
that week  for anyone who wants to attend. John is going to put photos up on
his Facebook account. He has also offered to email them to Randy Rick to post to the Forum.
------

I will start a sticky thread where we can discuss the site visit the week of March 16th.

Thanks for the info Randy.  Was there mention of which guitars are in the 1st batch?  Are they doing them by wood type?
