And just for fun I will add a pic of the best Koa that I have ever seen on a guitar.

nice nice.

Shouldn't get the Blackwood Bros so excited though.

OK. I have a question for you.

I see little if any difference between the Koa and the Blackwood, but I am color blind (actually color deficient as I do see colors but have problems distinguishing some particularly in the red-brown-green range).

What I do see or think I see is a tad more gold in the Koa and the grain (not the flame) of the Blackwood is straighter.

Other than that, I don't see much difference. They are both stunning!

Does anyone see more difference than this.

Don I agree with you,not that I'm color deficient.Just that they are very close in color just got some Koa's in with really bold grain stripping that's very dark.

Yeah, Don,
I thought Newton was pulling the leg of the B.B.
(Blackwood Brigade)!  In many photos I have seen cross familiarities, and can see the "family" resemblance.  I also wonder if there is a country difference (environment) that produces a particular type of grain, or maybe a particular niche.  I love that tiger graining.

Although it's hard to tell due to different lighting and so forth, I have to agree with Don as well.  The grain in the BW looks straighter than the Koa and the Koa appears to have a golden or orange hue to it.  These are two great examples of Blackwood and Koa that really show off their family lineage.

Thanks mnewton for the wonderful eye candy!

I dunno... reminds me of the custom suit Trapper John bought in an old episode of MASH - the stipes all went the wrong way...

To my tastes, the wood is on sideways. Just my opinion, though...
