Why Polys On 03s And Nanos On 05s, 09s, 10s?

Does anyone here know why Larrivee puts Elixir Polywebs on the 03 models and puts Nanowebs on the 05s, 09s and 10s?  When I tried a bunch of Larrivees at Buffalo Brothers, I do remember all the 03 models to sound somewhat dull compared to the more expensive models.  I just assumed at that time they all had older strings but having discovered that Polys are used on all the 03s, the strings probably weren't older.  I can only think of two reasons:

1. To differentiate the tone from the 05s, 09s and 10s.

2. More beginner guitarists buy the 03s and Larrivee wants to make them easier to play.  Since the Polys have a thicker coating, it makes them a bit easier on the fingertips.

I think number 2 makes the most sense but would like to here anyone else's opinion.

These are good questions. I just bought a D-03, a beginner. But I asked for a new set of strings and went with the Nanoweb Medium. I have been using multiple sets of Nanowebs on another house brand guitar guitar. I'm learning about the vast differences and preferences in strings.
