Why does my OM-05 look like maple?

I've always wondered why the specs for the OM-05 say mahogany when the back and sides of my OM-05 look like maple (I bought it used). Just curious. Are they all finished with that light stain?

Here's a picture:

Larrivee doesn't stain any of it's woods.

They do finish mahogany with that "no stain" gloss, and it reminds me of ginger and strawberry blonde. Lovely guitar! It's mahogany, and an exceptionally interesting and unique back.  :thumb

I've compared 03 series hogs and 05 series hogs side by side at a local dealer and the 05's looked a little brighter (lighter) to me. I figured it was just the gloss that made it look like that.

Nice even grain on yours......... :nice guitar:

But the b&s are so much lighter than the neck, which is also mahogany.  :?

The binding around the guitar is maple. Without stain, Maple is a very light colored wood, almost white. You might be thinking maple that is stained like furniture or mandolins. Martin stains it's mahogany so it is almost as dark as the rosewood.

Ok, it isn't stained at all, the Martins are stained. That explains that. Thanks everyone. I love this guitar.

Very nice looking guitar. Larrivee always uses the nicest woods.

Would I be correct in guessing that you're a survivor of the consumption or in treatment? tbman?  :humour:

Gotta be some folks here who remember their parents, grandparents, or great-grandparents talking about "the consumption", even though it's called tb these days.

LOL, no, the t stands for "Tyler", our youngest son, the b is for me and "man" is our older son's nickname.

I've always respected JL for not trying to hide the beauty and warts of his wood choices. There is nothing like a natural top that is a few years old and begins to get a golden patina.

I was in a local music store Saturday and they had a used 000-50 that has spent a few years out of its case. The golden tan highlighted by the herring bone and flamed maple purfling was just beautiful. I hope mine looks as good in a couple of years :thumb

Good looking mahogany you got there.
