Davey...I like your list, but I would mix the two of your lists......
1K give me the Martin 00015s that is such the rage and great deal at that price point.  I wish Larri made that same model in 03 line (hint-hint)
2K give me some version of the D18 upper line models.....maybe the V? (I think you can pull one in for that price?)
3K you can't go wrong with your Collin dred.....man are those nice!

All said and done, though, here would be my list of under a grand treasures: (I love trolling in the cheaper areas of the stores)
$300  Seagull Folk
$500  Blueridge BR140 -or- Empiphone Masterbuilt dred
$900  Larrivee D-03 -or- L-03  -or-  Martin D-16GT

1K = Seagull folk cutaway, cedar over cherry
2K = Martin Custom OMC16R with cedar top, paua rosette & 1 & 13/16 nut (quoted price i have is $1,948 street)
3K = Webber roundbody cutaway, cedar over zircote, koa binding, paua rosette 1 & 13/16 nut (around 3K based upon David's website)

Ta,

d.

If i could have included Larrivee -AND- if the custom shop was a reality then a cedar topped LSV11 would be in the running.

Me too.

2K, I'd get either a used Santa Cruz or an old Gibson.

3K...I think I'd have to go with a Froggy.  I love that scrimshaw!  (I'm just guessing that they can be had at that price, I don't actually know.)

Above $3K...I'm out.

No larrivees- this hurts- ok heres a shot !

used Martin- HD-28 ( about 1800 )
used Martin D-18GE or D-18v ( around 1500 to 2000)
used Gibson hummingbird ( 1500 - 2000 ) decent ones are tough to find - but real gems

Im not a believer in low end Martins - always though its better to buy higher on the food chain used ( if your on a budget )
