Stan Rogers' son, Nathan

I posted this over on UMGF but it might get a better hearing ion the Larrivee forum where Canadian guitars and artists are a little more appreciated.
The video is lousy, the spectators are obnoxious but stay with it....you'll hear a VERY close semblance of Stan Rogers's voice in his son, Nathan Rogers singing "The Jewel of Paris".

I could not find a decent video of Nathan doing a complete song beginning to the end except the Mary Ellen Carter It takes a while to hear Stan... but he's sure there.

Nathan's website is here >>

I also saw this a few weeks ago. He sounds incredibly like his Dad and sorta resembles him too! I've really missed Stan's great voice over the years and now Nathan is standing up to the plate and none too soon either. The "Jewel of Paris" is a step in the right direction in Stan's style of folk music. I've gotta go order his CD. If you want to hear folky stuff, you gotta go North!!

PS: On a different note, I saw a clip of the emergency landing of Stan's plane on you tube. Some of the survivors relate their experience. Quite tragic at best, but it paved the way for new rules and materials in planes. If only it had been sooner.

And that IS right!! A significant portion of it started there anyway with Ian & Sylvia.
I do love the Scot/Irish influence of the Maritime folk music though. . . The stories, the allusion to mythical characters and superstition, the attributes to the voice of nature and the reckless tenor of that particular people: brash, not a little bold and emotional. It fascinates me I think more than the of social cause folk music of the 60's and even the Kingston Trio. Through the Rogers' efforts (Stan, Garnett, Nathan) and so many others (Mary Black, Karen Matheson, Dick Gaughan. . . ) I learned to appreciate once again at least some of the traditional folk music.

Ahh yes, Ian and Sylvia. My Dad has a bunch of their albums. I also remember watching the Makem and Clancy and Ryans Fancy shows on, I think channel 9, back in the 70's. They always had featured quests such as Archie Fisher and the Fury Brothers. Good stuff! I wish the networks would put them back on again even as re-runs. I first heard Stan on some variety show (Tommy Hunter?) singing 45 years. I didn't know who it was at the time and didn't find out till years later on a Canadian radio show called Fundy Folk Night. Oh well, so much for my meandering, but the music was a big influence on me and still is.
