Hello folks.   My wife got a nice Mac a while back and she wants me to throw down some tracks using the GarageBand program.  While I really like the idea of having some stuff on CD, I am pretty intimidated by the Mac and the entire process.  Do any of you use this program to make recordings?  How hard is it to get started?  How good is the quality of the sound once it's recorded?  Any help would be appreciated.   Thanks......

like anything (like, riding a bike?) the first few go rounds are confusing, but as soon as you get a few of the processes (like bringing up a track or adding an effect or 'beat') the rest becomes easy. I have recorded most of my stuff in Garage Band and then graduated to GB's big cousing, Logic Express (there is also a more PRO version called LOGIC).

Garage band used to be only one input at a time, but they upgraded so you can run more than one mic/line in at once (vocal and guitar, etc) NICE

What you don't have to hassle with is the whole PC soundcard deal on the Mac. The sound inputs are straight ahead. Are you using a USB  interface? That is, how are you getting the sound into the MAC? A usb interface, like the TASCAM US-224 simply plugs in via USB and has several 1/4" and XLR inputs where you can plug your mic line or line from your guitar pickup into.
