Can someone offer advice on which tuners will be an exact replacement for my new D-03?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Lefty,

depends on what you mean by exact replacement. Gotoh 510s are very popular and considered the best (of the closed back tuners in any case), but their rounded shape and most of all their kidney shaped buttons don't please everyone. They are drop in, screw hole placement match exactly.

The Schaller M-6 look a lot like the stock Ping (or maybe it's the other way around), I'm not sure they are drop-in though.

I suggest a search, you'll find many threads on the subject.

Stewart Mcdonald has great diagrams of the tuners they sell.  Click on the tuner you want and then click "specs" and it will show you a drawing of the tuner dimensions.

Here's a link to drathbun's topic on his Gotoh 0903 which are Schaller-style tuners.

Gotoh 1951's are drop-in replaciments, are cheaper than the 510, and more similar to the stock Larrive tuners. But a definate step up in qualty from the stock tuners.  The tuning keys are just a bit smaller, which I prefer - not sure why.

According to Stewmac, 1951s have small button, and 0903s large buttons. The bodies seem to share the same dimensions.

Don't know if anyone's mentioned it but you can always swap out the buttons on the 510s for more trad. ones.

OR, you could go with open back grovers or waverleys or similar, of course you'd have to drill two new holes but imo they look so much better.
