This is a "Herringbone " trim version of the D-18, has all the specs of the D18V (ebony board and vintage thru saddle bridge), also has the Forward-shifted, scalloped braces as found on the HD-28 and HD-35 models. According to Martin there were 53 of these made in 1987 only as the  October "Guitar of the Month". It has tortoise binding and guard, and the darker binding really sets off the herringbone better than on the 28/35 models.
The guitar has been a player with lots of little dings, etc, but no cracks. The pickguard is flat and secure, there is a small area just above the guard where there is pickwear thru the finish (about the size od a penny). THe first five or so frets are worn and have been dressed for about the last time, but still play well. There is almost no wear on the ebony board, just a few finger spots that aren't as shiny as the rest of the board...could use some steel wool , but definitely not "divots". There is a strap button on the neck heel, as well as a patched hole from a previous button. Ebony tuner buttons are original, but the ebony pins and end pin are new.
I am selling for $1650.00 or looking to trade for interesting acoustic guitar even or with cash or a small acoustic  or keyboard amp.
