Does anyone know whether the efx loop on these amps is serial/ series or parrallel?  I've heard good things about them - any thoughts?  I'd like to replace my AER Alpha - too crisp for my liking.

If you hear the AER as too "crisp", then you probably won't like the Ultrasounds.  They are generally a bit brighter and are certainly more brittle sounding than the AER amps.

Of course, a lot depends on the instrument and pickup(s) used, as well as the player.

I would suggest that you not replace anything until you are more familiar with the sound you are looking for and what part of yuor signal chain is getting in the way of that sound.

+1 on that.

Considering the total information available from your other posts you have already invested the amount of money required to yield a very nice sound. It is now time to find someone who can guide you in either using what you have in the best possible way, or making intelligent decisions on what to change to achieve what you are looking for.

Have you tried different gain settings on the PADI?
