Hi all,

So I bought a bunch of medium-lights or bluegrass strings as it sometimes called. I had tried some Pearse Bluegrass PB's on my Guild F47CE and sort of like the extra bass.

1) Does anyone use Med Lights or Bluegrass or do  you like it?
2) Should I use these on all my other guitars or will it have a diff effect and I should have bought some lights (balance issues, etc?)
3) I have one set of Medium Nano's that I won for answering a trivia question - which guitar should I try those on for the best results - I was thinking the Larrivee DV03E and can it handle it.

Here's my guitar base in relation to the strings: (don't worry about the Seagull - trying to sell or trade that one off)

Strange you should mention this. I just bought a 10-pack of d'Addario bluegrass strings from Shoreline Music in their clearance sale. That was a very good buy at $25 shipped for 10 sets of strings.

I think that they would be good on any guitar where you want to get a little more bass-end thump, of course bluegrass style comes to mind. I'm thinking about putting the first set on my L-09CE for a swim, BBQ, and evening jam at a pick'n buddies house this afternoon.

Very good deal, think I'll have to jump on those;-)

Mediums on everything!!!

2003 Larrivee L-03 BW
2002 Larrivee D-03 BW x 2

They are also a good choice for Dropped D tuning. I find lights get a little too flabby in the bass when I drop them.

For DADGAD or CGADAD tunings Ii like to use a mixed set so that I get mediums on the 6, 2, 1 and lights on the 5, 4, 3. John Pearse #310NM New Medium strings are guaged .013, .017, .024, .032, .042, .055

I tried a set of elixir light/mediums (polywebs). I liked the feel but I wasn't fond of the polyweb because, at the time, I was using Elixir nanoweb on my guitars. I'm going to try a set of strings which have medium tops and bottoms and light inside. Anyone know what they're called?

Joe

:TON> I guess I should've read the previous post more closely. Any other brands beside JP's that do this type of string?

Wow what a great deal! Keep the guitar away from the pool and the fire!!!

No one has commented on which guitar I should put the Elixir Mediums on...

I don't like the product.

I could say more but my Mom ("If you can't say something good, don't say anything at all") would get mad at me for saying bad things...

Ah but atleast I am getting that you don't like Elixirs vs not liking mediums.

Oh, I like mediums and use them on most of my guitars. I have two guitars that are built a bit too light for mediums, so on those I have used the mixed sets.

I could possibly live with the newer PB Elixir Nanos, if I had to.  :WNK> For my money, I still like the D'Addario EXPs better.

+1

IMHO, plastic just feels wrong wrapped around a guitar string.

And FWIW, I'm fond of the Custom gauge Newtones that the 12th Fret sells.

I put the Pearse Bluegrass strings on my OM-03 and I really like them.  I think I will be sticking with them.

I have mediums on the D-03R, that's the way to go.  Put the mediums on the DV-03.

I just put a set of those on my 00-50 and found that they were just the ticket, though I may also try a heavier gauge of Newtones just for fun.

I play Bluegrass and prefer the regular mediums. The Bluegrass mediums g string is the difference and loosing the .001 causes me too much breakage.....Elixirs....I don't use condoms. Use D'Addario Medium PB on my 00 19 and D41.

Good to hear ... I plan to be putting a set on my (new to me) 00-19 in short order.
