DiMarzio Reference Acoustic DP139

OK, so I'm thinking this might be the soundhole p/u for me.  I need a non-invasive (no drilling) p/u for two different acoustics that I can switch between them with relative ease.  I don't want to invest (right now) in a whole lot of preamp-type equipment.  I have a Vox tube stompbox preamp that I might or might not use.

The sound clips and video at fingerpick.com impressed me.

Does anyone have any experinece (good or bad) with this DiMarzio p/u?

Also, these things seem really difficult to find on the market.  Anyone know where I can find one in stock?  (I've called many DiMarzio dealers listed on their website and none of them stock this item - some of them had never heard of it before).

So I tracked one of these down at Guitar Center in Seattle with the help of a guy named Joey.  Review of the p/u to come soon!

As an aside, I have to say that Joey was perhaps the single most helpful person I've ever encountered in retail music sales.  I'm not kidding, this guy is a star.  He even gave me his cel phone number to call him when he wasn't at the store and make sure everything went OK.  Top, top service.

Hi Calvin,

That's a pretty good description of it.  I don't have my rig fully complete yet for playing "plugged", but even straight into a Peavey studio amp with midrange seriously attenuated and high taken down some, the pickup sounds very natural in a slightly mellow, jazzy way.  (Of course without a preamp, you have to crank the volume on the amp).

I can't explain it, being a smooth jazz fan (think "Acoustic Alchemy"), this is absolutely slickest sound you can get out of guitar such as the LV-05.  Just so mysterious.  And if you turn the treble down, I know for a fact it sound just like a great acoustic jazz guitar.  Putting this pickup in a guitar is probalby as close as you can get to a 20,000 dollar Manzer.

...Which makes it a heckuva deal considering it is a $110 pickup!!!  :GRN>
