Title: Home studio with a PC?
Post by: dshoffman on October 10, 2005, 11:59:11 PM
Is it possible to get any kind of quality recordings from a home studio using a PC, software and Microphones?

If so, can someone elaborate as to what would make up a reasonable home studio?

Thanks!

Hi,

Here is another site that might be a bit more specific.

This topic is an easy or as complicated as you want to make it.

This is a good article for selecting the right gear >  http://www.acousticfingerstyle.com/ComputerRecording1.htm

There are lots of choices but it mostly depends on your budget.

The E-MU 1820 http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/search/detail/base_pid/242511/sourceid=qIZwQ0u@6xeEAmAlF@Y2/befree_site_id=0039855383
is probably a good choice for good quality and easy setup.   It has everything you need in one package.

The Lexicon Omega Desktop Recording Studio   http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/search/detail/base_pid/245505/sourceid=qIZwQ0u-PReAAmAlF4IT/befree_site_id=0039855383
is also a good choice for an all in one package with easy setup.  I'm a little leary of USB devices, but most people like them ok.  If you have a fairly new, powerful PC, then it should work ok.

Here is a great video tutorial on the basics of home recording by our own LittleBrother - Doug Jones. I really enjoyed this three part series. It is basic and clear. He goes from choosing the right equipment (microphones and audio cards) to basic recording, editing and mixdown to various audio file types.
