Title: Mandolin picks!! Let’s jaunt down the rabbit hole,together...shall we?!
Post by: Ian Rossiter on July 16, 2020, 02:25:10 PM
Here we go....

The personal preferences regarding Picks are as vast and personal as can be; not to mention expensive!!
I find myself grabbing one of 3 ; a Blue Chip CT, Blue Chip STP 60, and the Wegen.
All have great characteristics, different personalities of Tone,Feel,Grip, how they address the strings, wear, cost, ect. Though,I've had the Wegen mandolin picks for about a decade without a HINT of wear, with pretty constant use,I might add.
Each one has its own Tone and feel, as well as how the Instrument/Strings respond to it!!

So...spill!! Whatcha using and why?!??

Do whatever pleases you, of course, but I went down the mandolin pick rabbit hole and it left me underwhelmed, and I tried them all.   Eventually I ended up going back to regular guitar picks and using the rounded shoulder of them when playing mandolin.   And I'm still a lousy mandolin player. YMMV.

These two. The sound is quite similar though the feel is different. The top pick has a grip texturing that I appreciate, and is also my go-to guitar pick.

I like the Big Stubby for guitar - on mandolin I like its little sibling, the 2 mm Stubby, or the JazzTone 204's. If I'm feeling particularly sloppy, I'll switch to the larger Jazztone 207.
