Title: More Snow!
Post by: ducktrapper on February 24, 2019, 01:24:30 PM
The garage has disappeared and snow removal costs are escalating to the point where we might not be able to afford food. And it's snowing again! Help!!!!   :crying:

Well, if you get to the point where you must eat snow, there’s a cautionary aphorism out there somewhere...

and if it helps, spring is only a month away.
Although, that’s on your calendar, if not exactly on your map that says, “You are HERE

It may be coming for you. This is how Ice Ages start.

Yep and with all these dogs, there's lots of it. I always laugh on Ground Dog Day when they say, unfortunately, it looks like six more weeks of winter. I wish.

That’s just crazy, Rob.
There’s no snow down south.

According to the map from the movie "Day after tomorrow" we beat the freeze but we do become the Canada.Oh and it has snowed in Tallahassee but it was just a couple of flake's. :winkin:

Florida flakes notwithstanding, it finally stopped snowing and cleared up. Trouble with that is now it's cold again. Winter! You just can't win.

Even colder this morning. Minus 24 C. Minus 11.2 F. The Chihuahuas do a little dance when you put them out to try and not have all feet touch the ground at the same time. It's quite cute. The Setters love the snow. And there's lots to love. Hopefully March brings some let up. I can't wait for April.

Didn’t it just recently snow in Tucson, AZ too?  I’m so ready for this winter to end!

March 1st. The month came in here neither lionlike or lamblike. Sort of in between. Sunny, a little warmer but no doubt it's still winter. What does that mean?

Means Mardi Gras is just 4 days away now.
Daylight Saving Time: 9 days from today.
Vernal Equinox: only 19 more days
St Patrick's Day: 16 days.
And finally, only 298 more shopping days until Christmas! (http://www.xmasclock.com/)

I hear you. $50.00 every time they plow my drive way and yard. And then I still have to shovel to get to the garage and the woodshed and around the house.

So that's kind of a bargain in Canadian $$$! But your Canadian snow is cleaner and definitely worth more.  :whistling:

I don't know about that. If it was worth anything I'd be rich! As it stands, I have to pay them and we're running out of places to put it.  :crying:

More snow, indeed... we're supposed to get another 5-12" tomorrow through Sunday a.m., and we're under a Winter Storm Warning (which includes high winds that are already bringing on travel warnings for Sat.-Sun.).

I think we already have enough... matter of fact, there's so much snow on the ground already, how could there be any more left up in the sky?  :?

As Jesse Winchester says, "You know what they say about snow flakes. That there ain't no two the same. But all those flakes look alike to me and every one is dirty shame."

Speaking of places to put it, I plow our driveway with a Yamaha Grizzly quad with a 4 ft. plow. It's actually kind of fun but there sure was a learning curve going from a truck and plow to the much smaller rig. Great care must be taken in some spots to actually taper your snowbanks to allow climbing them with more snow because you just have nowhere else to put it except on top of the last pile. We basically had little snow here in our part of Michigan until January so this year is not as bad as some. And nothing like your (up-to-your neck) of the woods. My old U.P. stomping grounds has gotten over 200" so far this winter.

Yeah that southern portion of the lake is famous for lake effect snowfall. We get off a little easier here on the North shore. I can see Michigan from my house, by the way. Isle Royale is a mere 23 miles away and takes up most of the horizon.

Watch out for those transplanted wolves making their way back across the ice. They love to supplement their diets with a little duck when they can get it!  :roll

Nice picture by the way.

They won't get me! The Chihuahuas will pack up and take them down! The Setters will watch.

That's the view from our front yard, by the way. Here's another from earlier in the winter (or maybe last winter). They call our road Island Ave. for a good reason.

More.
Beautiful scenery! For nine of my ten Yooper Years I lived on the south shore of Gitche Gumee. What an awesome and mysterious body of water. And certainly a snow maker. Your photos are really nice, as is your eye.

Thanks. Yes, it's beautiful here. Rugged and somewhat desolate in winter. For the first couple of months here, I got up and photographed the sunrises over the lake. I have dozens of beautiful ones. I have a little Nikon Coolpix that does a nice job. The fancier Nikon takes too long to unpack.  :laughin:

Here's another one of my favorites.

Beautiful images.
Sure helps to be reminded of why we live "up north" (although we're not as "up north" as some) when March rolls around and I can grow weary of Winter's enduring grip.

Weary of winter, for sure. It's been nice the last few days. It reached 0 C/32 F degrees yesterday! Tough Canadians are in t-shirts walking around the yard. Unfortunately, it's still early and winter can have a few surprises for us yet.

I can't take a lot of credit for pointing an easy to use camera. God's work, not mine.  :cheers

Here's the one I took this morning. Actually, we're considering selling and moving closer or into town. Crazy I know but it's awfully remote here, is costing a fortune in gas and no one comes to visit. Helen is looking at a few places this afternoon.    :doh

We put an offer in on a house in town today. Contingent on selling this place, of course. We want a lot for it so we'll see. They're not making any more lake front property, however.

Maybe good news Duck.  My garage has melted out, the weather is in the 40's today here in downeast Maine, the geese have returned, and I'm going to try and hide my shovel!  Hopefully its headed your way :beer

Hopefully. We've had some nicer weather that's for sure. Hovering around the low 30's (F). Well, that's nice for this neck of the woods in March. Sunny days and the snow is disappearing a little. There's just so darn much of it. Around here we are never safe from winter until the end of April, however. Always a chance for a huge blizzard. And oddly, we've had a lot of snow but it came in many falls and we haven't had that huge blizzard yet. You know, the kind with five foot drifts. Knock on wood (hits top of head).

We had a couple look at the house today. They loved it and went home to discuss an offer. The good thing is that they wanted to buy it two years ago when we did and just missed it. We have put many improvements in and if they really want it, a full price offer is the way to get it. We'll see.

Yes - best of luck on the sale, Tom.  :thumbsup

Meanwhile, back to the weather: the snow is melting like crazy here in southern MN, and now we have the local Des Moines River at 2 feet above flood stage. We moved up here from Omaha two + years ago, and many of our friends back in Nebraska are suffering greatly from the flooding - very sad. I suspect we'll be back in NE sometime in the next year doing mission work cleaning up and helping to rebuild...

Yeah that's horrible. Sometimes you just can't win. Especially with nature.
