Title: New technology day
Post by: Paraclete on November 14, 2017, 01:05:13 AM
Finally upgraded from my really slow iPad 2 to the most recent 10.5" iPad Pro, thanks to a ridiculous sale at Costco.  Wow....the speed is amazing, but I think I'm most impressed by the stereo speakers.  The overall sound upgrade is even better run through a good set of in-ears.  Best purchase I've made since I bought my LSV-11.  Supposedly there are a lot of apps and plugins for stage and recording stuff.  Haven't had the time to explore that yet.  Anyone have any experience with that stuff?

I'm currently looking into it. I just got a new standard iPad (2017 or 5th gen) this month and I'm starting to play with it.  Couldn't fit the extra for the pro in the budget.  It has GarageBand pre-loaded which I haven't used before.  I'm looking for a good computer / ipad interface for getting the sound in there.  I've done a lot of research and I'm looking at the Tascam US 2x2 as a good interface that I can use with the computer or the ipad with an adapter.  Other interfaces I looked at were the Scarlet, and the Presonus audiobox itwo.  All looked good.  All had pros and cons.  I liked the ones with 2 inputs that you could run simultaneously for my needs and the ones that would take xlr and line inputs.  Most come with their own software as well or use garage band or other items.  Of course I'd love a big recording suite with lots of channels etc, but this seems to cover my needs at this time.

Now need to save up the money.  My music budget is limited and I also need a new delay for playing electric at church which will probably run in the $250-300 range.

Let me know what you come up with.

I'm also trying to use the iPad for design work (for work)  I've got a stylus with it and trying to work with the programs to do sketching or rendering on the device.  Need more practice with that.

My latest tablet use is with a portable wifi digital mixer.  They are extremely versatile and can typically handle 10 wireless users at one time.  They normally accomodate all formats of phone, tablet and pc...

I'm amazed at the utility of iPads.  I love mine and will replace it when it goes south...

I constantly think about what passes as "speakers" and what we accept as listenable, these days.

256GB, wi-fi 10.5" iPad Pro.  $689.99 before tax.. that's $110 off current retail of $799.  Don't know if there are any left, but sale is supposed to run through the 16th.

Ha!  Yes, my kids regularly listen to music through their phones or tinny laptop speakers.  In this case, the new pro speakers sound really good, at least for a device as thin as it is!  Still prefer to listen through my Shure in-ears though.  I suppose the general lack of discernment in hi quality sound these days is kind of like how some people think that all guitars are the same.   :humour:
