Title: New guitar day
Post by: Gordo in OZ on October 27, 2017, 06:19:30 AM
I thought I had a Maple Special P-02 - It is in fact an O-01 Flame Maple Special with a cedar top from March 2003.

1980 would definitely be incorrect. My old 1999 parlour O-01MH predates this one for sure.

Yes...Larrivee's earliest Parlors were made in the mid-90's I believe...  :?

I was checking a book and it describes the 2002 models as O-01 (MH,R,FM). At least we know it was not made in the 80's. And if was made in Vancouver.

I would love to have a better idea of the date of manufacture. A previous owner installed a pickup and the battery bag covers the serial number. I assumed 80's from the Vancouver label. If anybody can give me a better guess that would be great. When did Larrivee make Maple Special Edition P-02 in Vancouver?

Just take the battery bag off. Best guess from what I see is after 2003.

They made mahogany, rosewood and maple in the O-01 models. Which predate the P series.

My recollection was the late 90's without racking my brain too much. I recall discussions on the original parlours (first 500) or so as O-01, to differentiate them from the later parlours.  The first 500 had a 1 11/16" neck and they changed to 1 3/4" on the second and subsequent run so another indicator could be the nut measurement.

Luv these threads that bring up the history

Reason I thought it might be a P-02 was because it has nice maple binding and black purfling on the front and back. When I have to change strings I'll have a serious look at pulling off the velcro that holds the battery bag and obscures the serial.

We bought my daughter a parlor around the year 2000/01... no body binding, very simple Sitka and Mahogany, serial number 562xx, if that helps date yours.

So I pulled off the velcro and discovered that I have a Larrivee O-01 Flame Maple Special (March 2003) thanks to all who contributed their thoughts about dates and models. I'm very happy with this tiny guitar.

How about that.

But yours is also a special edition.

Mine is from 2003 and does not give any number reference. It is simply described as a "Limited Edition Rosewood Parlor" guitar.

They have a stash of Austrian flamed maple 🍁 at Yarnell Place.  Beautiful stuff.

That is a great idea Steve and I agree the Austrian FM is a gorgeous wood, and of course maple is my fave anyway.  I have been contemplating a 12 fret SD with a Moonwood top and had not yet decided on a back/sides wood....
