I cannot believe he drove a Volvo station wagon.  That is a hoot.

Great Blast from the Past!  They were all so young and dedicated.  Thanks very much for sharing this, I had not seen this one before...

Looks like it's a stick too; you can see him downshifting as he pulls into the Larrivee parking lot.

Great video - I love the slower pace and the time taken to show different parts of the building process.

Thanks for bringing our attention to this documentary. I doubt that JCL would often if at all arrive to the shop late  :bgrin:
Well I know an 80's L is somewhere in my future. That was good, and thanks to the team for letting us watch and for the producers.

Those were literally hand made guitars in the early days.  Watching the guy hand chiseling the neck block and then rasping and sanding showed some of
the hand labor involved, now CNC does that.  It would be interesting to know the street price of Larrivees back  in the day.

Thank you for sharing that.  I really enjoyed it.

Does anyone have any idea how many guitars Larrivee build each year...just a rough estimate?

I read somewhere that they currently make about 10,000 guitars a year. I could be wrong and that might have been at their peak of production.

That would be, roughly, 27 guitars a day.  Not bad.  In the video, Jean said that it took about 4 months to make one guitar.  I wonder how long it takes them to make one guitar now?

This film made me an even prouder Larrivee owner.  What a legacy he is creating.

And then watching this short film from 2016 shows the passion stronger than ever.

I especially liked the glimpses of what are clearly custom tools, like the fret slotting saw.

Started watching this and got distracted. Today I watched it all from the beginning. Really good stuff and shows the skills needed to build good guitars.
After watching I got out all my Larrivees and played each one. (except the parlor). When I played the OO-40R it really impressed me, so much that I just stuck with it.

The OO-40R is my only rosewood guitar right now, plus I just enjoy that 12 fret tone with the 40 bracing. It makes a smaller guitar sound bigger. But it's so easy to play and hold in a chair.

Anyway this video makes you feel so good about your Larrivees.

Yeah I know what you mean Dan. I do setups for the local Larrivee dealer and get to play them all - mine is the hog version but certainly my favourite Larrivee.

I saw that video posted on Facebook - makes me feel good about Larrivees too.
