Man, that band just keeps getting better. One of the true greats. RIP Leon.

Oh Man, I really hate to hear this.  Too many of the old Greats are just moving on...   :crying:

Sad, "Tightwire" has long been one of my favorites to play. I wore the grooves out on my "Carney" and "Will O'the Wisp" albums.

He'll be missed!

I love his first album and Mad Dogs but my favorite Russell album just might be the one he made with Marc Benno. Asylum Choir. Sweet Home Chicago, Salty Candy, Tryin' to Stay 'Live. Straight Brother, Learn How to Boogie. Great album.

Leon Russell wrote and performed some of my favorite music.
And before Mad Dogs he was a member of The Wrecking Crew.
I went to school with his bass player in Ohio.
Man, it's been a tough year.

His Hank William's Back album is one of my wife's all-time favorites. The woman drives me crazy. When she likes something she wants to hear nothing else. I recently drove to Grand Marais Mn to meet her and bring her back home. I was beat and insisted she drive from Duluth home. A five hour drive and we listened to Fred Eaglesmith Live and Corb Lund over and over and over. "If you want me to drive, play Fred." So we did.  :doh

We just gotta hope there will always be someone younger who appreciates this music and will bring it forward in the future.  At least we have recordings of his and other more recently deceased artist's performances that can be replayed.  For older legends like Beethoven, Bach, Mozart, and all the classic composers, all we have is their scores written on paper.

Can anyone forget Leon's immortal "one, two, three, four" on Cry Me A River?
