Title: Morgan Concert Flamed Maple with Sunburst Cedar top
Post by: George on August 30, 2016, 02:53:30 PM
Absolutely stunning Morgan Concert that I stumbled across a great deal on I just could not pass up.  Figured Curly Maple neck, Turquoise inlay surrounded by brass ring, Old Western Cedar Tobacco Sunburst Top with large soundhole.  Oxblood and Black stained 25 year old Flamed Maple back and sides from the Chilliwack Valley in BC.  Body binding is very black ebony as is the headstock overlay.  Of course it has the classic Morgan "tiny blue line" highlight around all the binding and inlay.  This one has a 1 11/16" nut width, which is about all I play anymore, with full 25.5 inch scale.  The bridge pins are boxwood inlaid with black pearl.  The logo and rosette are stunning abalone so characteristic of David's work.  I am absolutely amazed at the tonal attack this wood combination has, this guitar is very articulate and very Loud.  You would almost think it was rosewood toned down just a bit.  That said the clarity and tone is unique to the guitar.  Enjoy the photos...

This one is purely acoustic, does not even have an end pin.  I will work on something to post.

P. S.  According to David, this is an awesome combination of tone woods that yields great sound.  Does not hurt that they are also very old...  Old is not always bad you know...

George, my OMM came the same way, no end pin ! I guess David figures if  he's not supplying a neck strap pin why bother with an end pin ?

You guys should go take a look at the Concert quilted maple with sunburst cedar top that Jason just posted on his website.  What a beautiful guitar!  The quilt in dark stain is just stunning!

George:

Oh, boy.  Oh, boy.  That is one fine looking guitar, and I bet that you will love it.  Cedar top is unusual for a Morgan, enjoy it, I bet that flamed maple sounds as good as it looks.

Yes sir, the cedar may be unusual but they certainly are mellow sounding.  I often choose a cedar top for blending with vocals, they don't tend to get out on top of it like spruce does...  This is an awesome guitar...
