Title: 00-40 MH Pearl Edition
Post by: mikey007 on August 19, 2016, 02:25:10 AM
Hey there, just wondering if anyone has played one of these abs what your thoughts were? I found a line on one and plan on trying it out this weekend. I have an L body already. Will the 00 be able to handle medium strings or are lights preferred? I play in DADGAD a lot, does the 00 body handle being turned down?

Thanks!

The 2 OO's I had were spec'ed for mediums, but did fine with lights.  One of the OO's was 25.5 and the other 24.75 scale.  Actually, tuned to standard, the 24.75 did best (for me) with John Pearse New Medium.  I always tuned standard so I can't speak to alternate turnings or tuning down.  I think there are string sets made specifically for DADGAD, though.

Hi Mike, it's likely a 25.5" scale and will handle mediums fine, but keep it properly humidified. If you are concerned, try out D'Addario's ej24's. They combine mediums and lights.
I've been looking at those pearl editions for some time now, very nice. I have to remind myself that I have a oo already.

Congrats on your 00-40 Pearl guitar. :nana_guitar
I love the ornamentation on those, and the 00-40 Hog is one of my favourite Larrivees.
Please post some pics!

Could someone share with me what the "pearl" series is about?   Sounds exciting but I'm not familiar.

I've used nothing but mediums on my OO-03 Forum IV.  Usually EJ-17's (I think that is the number).  I tried DADGAD but since it is only a 12-fret and a lot of the DADGAD stuff I do takes me in to the upper frets I stopped.  I keep the OO in standard tuning the the OM in DADGAD for the most part.

Something like this Custom, but with a belly bridge instead of the Pyramid of the custom model.

It's not the pearl edition but here is an expertly played OO-40 for your listening pleasure.  This store (with this player) has a number of YouTube posts with Larivee's.  Good stuff.

:+1: That store is the sole Larrivee dealer in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Yohan Song is the player - awesome finger stylist!
