Title: Need help indentifying this one.....
Post by: headsup on January 22, 2016, 07:52:35 PM
Out of the blue, an old friend, who I knew, back when I worked at Rufus' Guitar Shop in Montreal, emails me and says he wants me to have this larrivee tele "Knock Off".
He doesn't play it, and knows I have some history with the brand.

When I first saw it, and the headstock, I thought it was a Bakersfield.
So I asked him about it, and got a very funny story, which I'll save for another time (Why do all my guitars come with "stories"?).

Anyways, turns out, this guitar is NOT a Bakersfield, but in fact was purchased in Vancouver in 1985!
I thought those electrics (this would be an LT-2) had the famous "hockey stick" head stock, which is why I might have been confused.

The head stock & Logo on this 31 year old Larrivee resembles more the Bakersfeild models of today....

Any historians out there care to enlighten me on this?

Firstly your guitars have stories because you are a Story-Teller of the finest kind. Enlighten you? You seem to have nailed it - a LT-2. Assuming the two humbuckers are original and a bolt on neck. Nice example of an early Larrivee electric. Whats the serial #. There were lots of headstock variations of the "banana" and later abandoned altogether towards the end of production.

Are you a member of the Larrivee Electric Guitars Facebook Group?  I found photo of a strat with the same headstock on that page.  Someone commented that was an early headstock.  SN on this one was reported as 3493

I like it but can't help you. LT-2 sounds right but???? I call the pointy head stock the bird of prey design.

Apparently there was a New Head as well at the end of the electric run in the early 90's.  This is identified on that site as a NH4 (New Head)  Anyway, I just found that interesting.

Though not identical, the logo on my L-07 is very much the same.  My guitar is from the same era (1982-83)

All of these are very cool - I'm not a metal guy, but that "electric yellow" is exceptionally cool!

Thanks folks, it looks like I have acquired not one, but TWO white eighties Larrivee telecaster clones recently.
Both from the left coast, both en route to me, both very different guitars.

I'll post pics when I get the instruments, but don't be surprised if you see one of them go up for sale, I mean really?
What's a guy gonna do with two white telecasters?
