Title: #5 Has Landed
Post by: ftwhc on January 19, 2005, 12:11:42 PM
Yes, a couple of days ago she arrived safely after her long journey across the Atlantic.
It is of course a bit early to tell, but she is definitely one of the best Larrivée guitars I have ever played. Probably better that both the 00-09 and the 00-19 that I previously owned. And for example without any doubt also better than the Pete Anderson I tried out a couple of years ago.
The action is perfect and the sound is sweet; loud, rich and responsive.
I am quite confident that this is going to be a long and rewarding relasionship.
:)
Thanks Jason!

Thanks, I am really enjoying the company of this new little puppy. I live in Sweden, so she has travelled quite a bit already.  :)
I chose a spruce top, since I already own an all mahogany guitar (000-17S)
The Blueshawk - together with a Roland MicroCube - is a cool contrast to the acoustic guitars every now and then.
To be honest, I do not remember the PA all that well. But at the time I did not think it was as responsive as I would have wanted and I went with the 00-09 instead.

I think I am going in the opposite direction compared to some of you guys. Next step will probabably be to dress her up with my favorite strings: Thomastik Plectrum (yes) Lights. I just made a test by changing the low E-string and the sound is at least as meaty and full with the Thomastik 0.050 as with the Elixir 0.053. And this is in spite of the fact that the Thomastik string is used and worn.
I also plan to get a bone saddle, but I have to order one of these. Perhaps some Tusq pins too (great result with the 000-17S)

I have now made the string change and WOW...!! She really sings, even with these light strings. They are perhaps not quite as bright, but just as loud and they give a much more balanced sound.
Do yourselves a favor and try out these strings. They are perhaps not for everyone and not for every guitar. But MAN, they sure can sound sweet!!
And as for the guitar...
Well... I think I can now safely declare that #5 is in fact the best sounding Larrivée I have come across so far..

Rob,
I think #1-8 is Spruce and #9-17 is Mohog top. Well, that's what Jason told me.

Don't you just love those Micro Cubes? I love mine :D

Yeah, the Microcube really kicks butt, as small as it is!  B) Amazing sound for its size and superb value!
Just like the Forum guitar, although this one is not particularly small. She (name?) definitely has found a permanent new home here with me.
I think I am going to order a firestripe pickguard to make her even prettier than she is now. Her voice is already quite extraordinary and it will surely continue to develop into something even more spectacular.

I got a bone saddle from Bob Colosi that I will install it  on my #9 (Mahog top) to see how it sounds.

Cool! I am very interested in how it turns out, since I am considering boning #5 too! ;)
