and put a whole in the side of my geetar :nana_guitar
Very happy with the result both aesthetically and tonally......it's much louder to the player now and the trebles fattened up quite a bit. But one thing I wasn't expecting was the boominess factor out front went down a bunch and it's much easier to mic now.....not so sensitive to placement.
It was a real leap of faith, but it worked out in the end!! :thumb

Nice! Which guitar did you do it to?

The Mcknight already has a port (installed by Tim....I would NEVER attempt this on such an expensive instrument!!)
The Aparicio classical is an exceptional guitar, but it I didn't put a lot of $$ into it (has some minor cosmetic flaws)
I figured if I blew it my tech at Elderly's could have saved my butt.... :roll
Tim McKnight is going to do a soundport for one of my Larrivees as a demo at this year's McJam - looking forward to seeing how it turns out! :nana_guitar
I've been thinking seriously about doing this to my L but I'd like to find a specimen to practice on first. Probably a Yamaha FG-75 or something like that.
Wow, you're pretty brave.
At least you know for sure the sides are solid. :bgrin:

Yes, they are.....here's another shot to give some perspective on size and placement....the angle makes it look like it's closer to the bottom, but it's dead center....

Matt Mustapick recommended just using mineral oil. I didn't have any handy so I just used the Lizard Spit fingerboard oil I get from Elderly's.
Do you have to change your signature to "-06 Aparicio AA98.75.... " or something like that?
Brave move. I'm glad it worked out good for you.
