Title: Anyone compared DR Sunbeams and Rares?

Anyone compared DR Sunbeams and Rares?

I may be falling for hype (not the first time  :rolleye:) but the company claims Rares are different sounding while also low tension. I just stared playing Sunbeams because they are low tension.

How do these strings compare for playability and tone??

Haven't compared them, but I use the Rare's on my guitars.  Great sounding strings that last quite a while as well.  I used to use Newtones, but switched over a year ago and haven't looked back.

Give them a shot and see what you think.

I plan on getting some  (DR Rares) Monday (if Elderly has them) and will be giving them a try.
I'll do a follow-up, but it will be a couple weeks down the road with my busy work load.

I put "rares" on my F-III and IV. The F-IV would not tune up right at first and I thought the strings were bad (I installed them correctly) But anyway after the neck settling in a few weeks with the lower tension it sounds great. And I do like the sound of the "rares" a lot.

Thanks Dan.
So do you think:
A they are lower tension?
and
B They sound different from other PB strings?

Cool  :beer I really am enjoying the Sunbeams, but I'll give them a try too.

I tried DR Rares 3 times on an Ovation I once had. I tried coated and uncoated versions they sounded great but only for about 2weeks. For that reason I was reluctant to try Sunbeams on the Larrivee. I'm glad I did . The Sunbeams are the best sounding best feeling strings I've ever used. I've had them on for a month now and they still sound fresh. Perhaps I'll give the rares another go on the Larrivee.

I  have been trying to  figure out some guitar stuff, and tried both Silk and Steels and DR Sunbeam 11's on my 00.  :yak: Too slack for that guitar.

So I strung it with DR Rare 12's yesterday, and I really like them so far! Great tone for that box. So far I don't think they are that exceptionally  flexible or that low in tension (for that the Sunbeams are great - love them on my L), but they do seem to have that DR "Compression Wrap" thing so maybe they should be compared to other maker's mediums.  :? But they sound more in the range of D'Addario EJ-12's with more complexity and to my ears less brightness.  More like Newtone Masterclass, which is a compliment.

Thanks Danny  :wave
