Title: Larrivee Forum Youtube Channel
Post by: BenF on January 05, 2010, 07:57:19 PM
As suggested by Strings4Him, I have set up a forum youtube channel.  I am happy to maintain this.  I have subscribed to those who I know (bear in mind I set up my own youtube channel 2 weeks ago, so no offence meant if I have missed you).  I scrolled through the first two pages of the technique and playing board, and added all members who have posted links to videos.

I propose that there are certain boundaries, but that these be vague: -

Any musical style, any genre, but it must be by a forum member, and must be played on a Larrivee, or there must be a Larrivee in the band featured.  I also suggest that all those interested subscribe to the channel, and I will subscribe for the channel back in response, to create a network of larrivee owners and players on youtube.

I have randomly picked a few examples from those who I know post links, I hope they don't mind.  These are added to the favourites list.  If you have a track you would like featured, please post on this thread.  Equally, if I picked one you want removed, let me know by PM.  I will set it up to notify me of responses, and will update the youtube channel promptly.

Here is the link to the channel - http://www.youtube.com/user/larriveeforum/featured - please subscribe and add your own links and others you find to this thread, or PM them to me and I'll add them to the favourites list on youtube.

Not my idea, Strings4Him gets all the credit, with some help from ST on the arrangement.  I'm the middleman with some spare time this evening!

You're on there already!!

OK I'll bite did a couple of gigs with lots of Larrivee's being played,D03R,L01,OM03PA and an LJ05.I'll need to see if there is a way to clean the crowd noise out or if there is something with less crowd noise.Right now my wife is having the video put to disc so I'll keep you all posted.

I don't know if you want to (or are allowed to) include a demo from a Larrivee dealer, but here's a nice demo from Guitars of Pikesville of the new electric Larrivee RS-4.

His videos are great, I will add a couple and subscribe. I waited until someone else suggested it, but I see no reason why not. I think that this might prove to be a nice bit of free advertising for Larrivee.

Josh (at Guitars of Pikesville) is my local dealer.  He's a great (uhm, make that GREAT) player, as is evidenced by his youtube vids and he's a heck of a nice guy, too.

I believe it to be up to date again now.  Apologies for me being 6 hours ahead of most of you, therefore sleeping when you are all online.

I have subscribed to everyone who has subscribed or contacted me.  I have added Larrivee related videos for each member.  I stuck to 2 from each, picked primarily at random (unless I already had favourites, ha ha), except for Denis and Will, who have 4 each because they are awesome, and GA-ME because I love his 3 videos and couldn't pick, and I believe George has 3 too, again due to overall awesomeness.

If anyone thinks I have the wrong videos up for them, let me know and I can add more, or swap them around.

Thanks to everyone for supporting this idea, maybe Zach will add a link on the forum homepage if it proves to be successful?

Can I also note again that this wasn't my idea, so stop thanking me, thank Strings4Him instead.

My thanks to HIM, Strings4HIM, Ben and anyone else involved in setting this up - nice idea.

I no longer own a Larrivee but I subscribed, if that's ok.

When I clicked on my name  LW216316 in the subscriber list-
it brought up a clip of me playing my nylon string guitar.

Is there a way to change it to bring up a clip of me playing the Larrivee SD-50 I used to have -
here is the link to it

Larry, above your channel homepage are 4 buttons, the last of which says videos and playlists.  Click it, and then change 'featured video' at the bottom right corner from 'most recent upload' to one of your choice, and it will become the first video played on your page.

I added a couple of your videos to the Larrivee channel.

Thanks Ben  :thumb
...that worked...now it uses the SD-50 clip of 'Tears in Heaven'

fond memories of the SD-50 ,
and also of listening to Guitars of Pikesville when I was shopping - he had a clip / demo of an SD-50
and as I recall that was an influence in my deciding to buy an SD-50.
If I were to get another SD now...it would be the SD-60 rosewood model.

- hope all is well with you and family  :bgrin:

Ben,

What a joy! It's great to hear everyone play and to see all of these beautiful guitars.

When you get the chance, could you swap out my two vids for the following two?

"Colorado Girl" by Townes Van Zandt
This is a decent recording of my finger-picked D-60 SBT
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7Vq_pngnpM

"Coalminers" Traditional
This is my D-05 in a live situation with my former band.

Thank again for keeping this all up tp date!

Done Rob, I wasn't previously aware of your videos, so just picked two at random.  Appreciate the guidance on your preference.

I hope that the point is that a couple of tracks from each artist will lead viewers to click on the channel of their favourites and listen to more.  I would add them all, but the likes of Denis, George, Will Fly (and me I guess) have many videos featuring Larrivees, and it would make it somewhat unfair for others.

I am going to remove a few more videos so that there are only 2 from each artist.  The list is getting a little long now, and it seems fair.

Please let me know if you don't agree with this approach.

Ben

It is  great fun to see all you Forum-ites perform.

I have one suggestion (if it isn't too late) Can the titles include the Larrivee model name?

Good suggestion cke, but as it is effectively a playlist, everyone would have to amend their own videos. Many people already do so.

Thanks for taking a look.

I appreciate it Ben! Two vids from each artist sounds fair to me. That should be a good enough indication of what each of our styles are.

Back to watching more videos!

p.s. You guys rock...I've got a lot of practicing to do!

Now that this has been set up, I have changed the settings to show the most recently added video to be the featured one when you go to the home page.  No offence meant to Denis for taking Samuel off that position.

It seemed logical to put it there whilst the playlist was changing every 5 minutes, since it is an established forum favourite. (and we can all rest easy watching it and seeing that even Denis plays bum notes sometimes :humour:)

Thanks! I like it -- like the guitar, the playing, the singing, the song, and the animation in your playing and singing. Is the audio coming from the VadoHD, or something else? I have the non-HD Vado and the sound and video are nowhere near that quality.

BTW -- I like The Creek a lot. Great song!

Hey folks, I'm a new member (proud to be btw) and thought I would start out by posting a video I made with my ol' LV-09. I bought it third hand from a guy who bought it from a guy who used it for performing.....and it shows a bit of abuse. But it plays beautifully, and I'm now a HUGE Larry fan. It is now my "go-to" guitar and I use it for open mikes and such. I rip out the electronics cos they rattled and pissed me off. I'm thinking of installing a mini-flex mic system in it. Anyway, here it is....

Hi all,
I just subscribed to the Utube channel though I don't have a video to submit yet.  Still working on figuring out the technology.  I viewed every single submission in there tonite.   Is it ever great to see some of you perform up close and personal.  What a lot of talent there is in here!  It's very inspirational to me.

But here's the thing.  This may be a real dumb question, but how do I relate the person in the Utube video channel to the person in this here forum?  Nobody in the Utube space has the same username or any clue as to who they are in this forum.  Is there something obvious I'm missing?  I figured a couple out but how is one supposed to know who is who?

Sorry Kurt, you can't. There are a few that Have the same or similar name (myself included) and others who regulars here will recognise from sharing videos on here before (like Queequeg - bsur2000, Denis -dturbide)

The YouTube page is also subscribed to by people who aren't members here, as many have just found it through youtube.

When we get a new subscriber, I return the subscription and check that persons uploads for larrivee related videos. If someone wants a video included, they put it on here or PM me and I include it.

Hope this helps

Nice idea  :winkin:

I've kinda peaked in this thread near the beginning, but had nothing on youtube so didn't pay much attention.  A week or so ago my 7 year old son played an open mic with my A-33 Larrivee mandolin.  Fortunately, our friends were here from the states and had a video camera and caught most of it.  I just created a youtube account today and posted the video, so I put the link here ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUaHgnqFjn4 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUaHgnqFjn4)

I don't know how to link it to the Larrivee channel, but if someone could tell me or do it for me, I'd be grateful.  He might be the youngest Larrivee player on the channel  :nana_guitar

Thanks for the explanation, BenF and Darkbar.  Would be nice to be able to better relate the videos to the personalities in the forum, but it is what it is.  I'm a Utube virgin, you might say, but I'll figure it all out.

I tried to use my Queequeg uniquename on youtube but was informed that name wasn't available. (bsur2000 is my email addy.)

I had the same issue.  I wanted to use "Shooting Star", but it was already taken I guess.  So I made it "Old Shooting Star" instead.

"The Shooting Stars" was the name of my very first band consisting of me, my younger brother, and 2 friends.  I was 12 at the time.  I was the "keyboard" player.  I had one of those Orcana chord organs with 15 keys and 6 chord buttons.

Nice picking ST, and apologies for not picking up on the video before and adding it.  You are this weeks featured vid by way of an apology.

Hope I am up to speed with this now.  I have been really busy and low on motivation lately, and today have been low on technology after pouring coffee all over my work laptop  :crying: :crying: :crying:

Back up to speed now though, I'm glad people are enjoying the channel.

Hi Ben,

No need to apologize.  As I understand it - the Larrivee Youtube Channel is there for all of us and if someone wants in - s/he posts here and asks.  I don't think there is an expectation that you will scour the forum picking up references to youtube.

Thanks for the compliment though, and thanks too for the feature.

Ben, thanks for taking this on and for including me.  I have added this channel and your own to my subscriptions.  Peace,  Rich LaPierre
Rich, I gotta say.  There is a lot of great talent displayed on the Larrivee Utube channel, but I just enjoy your two submissions so much.  There is just something about your playing and singing in your basement and how it all comes together that just brings tears to my eyes.  O holy night just blows me away.  It is very inspiring to me.  I think "here is a guy that just takes a song, plays and sings it like it feels right to him, and does it".

Well, here it is, my first video.  Made it with my new Zoom 3Q.  I'm pretty impressed with the sound of my guitar.  I have to learn some of the nuances to get the best out of the recorder, but this isn't too bad for a first attempt.  I just basically set it up in front of my chair on my camera tripod and sat down and played into it.

I wrote the song in about 1972.

I'm not much a fingerpicker, but I've played this one so many times I do OK with it.  I think I'll show off my recently aquired 12-string in my next video.

So Benf, if you would be so kind as to put it on the Larrivee forum channel, here's the link

Hi there,
I just recorded my new-to-me OM-03-12. This is my cover of Leo Kottke's Watermelon.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Webdj5huw2U
Would you please add this to the Larrivee channel. I appreciate it.
As far as the OM-03-12 is concert, so far I really like it. A lot less jangle than the Taylor 355 anf 555 and the size is perfect for the couch.

My Larrivee friends..

I haven't been around too much lately, life has been tough to me, but I'm still here.  I haven't had a chance to really look at the youtube page either, so apologies for that.  I have added videos that people have asked me to add, but i haven't been able to search for new ones on the technique and playing board.

I have also updated the page to the new youtube layout, because the featured tab lends itself to a single playlist like this.  However, to avoid arriving at a confusing timeline tab, please use the direct link of http://www.youtube.com/user/larriveeforum/featured to look it up or pass onto others.

Please, if anyone has any larrivee videos that they want to have on the site, or know of any others that they think would fit, please PM me or post it on this thread, and I'll include them ASAP.  I am hopeful that life is taking a turn in the right direction for me, and I may have more time and energy to join in the fun a bit more.

Have a  :donut on me.

Peace

Ben

Hi, I just stumbled across this thread, nice thing to do.

Here's my little contribution. Hope it fills the criteria.
The guitar is JCL's original OM-60 Prototype for a NAMM show many years ago. Slot head, pyramid bridge, enlarged abalone sound hole.

I apologize for the sound, I believe it was taken just with the mic in the video camera.

My wife uploaded a few videos to my youtube channel from a concert I did at the local Phoenix Science Fiction convention.
I was asked to do a set of "new" space(i.e. private spaceflight) themed songs.

Most of the songs were performed using my trusty 1998 Larrivee OM-03RE, a few were done with my Taylor GA3-12 since my Larrivee 12 does not have a pickup in it.

Sound quality isn't too bad, though there is a bit of audience noise.  Since my wife also plays guitar she does know the 1 cardinal rule, always make certain the guitarist's chording hand is in the frame.   :beer

Let's see if this works:
