I just bought a J 10. I've always wanted one, and talked myself into forking out the cash with the usual "there are drug addicts that spend more than that in a month" internal dialogue... Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone on here knows something about these guitars. It's warranty registration card is still in the case with a 46 cent stamp. I've been able to find out that this stamp was issued in 1998. The address on the envelope is "1896 Victoria Diversion Vancouver B.C." I was checking out the net and was able to find out from the label style that it is pre 1995 and was probably built in the North Vancouver shop. So, possibly the guitar was built in the early 90's and was not actually sold until 1998. I'm wondering what these things retailed for? In the states it appears that they sold for $2695 according to one old site. When did they stop building them? My best estimate is around 2001. If you have any insight or relevant information, I thank you.
You can find some good info in the web archive:

For example, the J10 is still listed in their 2002 price list:

Hi Guitarenvy,
I've got a '94 J10. It's a very cool guitar.
I can't add anything to the info you've gathered but if you send the serial number to Larrivée they will get back to you with the dates. It may take awhile. Contact as detailed here:

What's on your headstock?

A very intricate pearl inlay sort of butterfly/vine - like. I saw one similar to it in the forums under headstock inlay. Someone posted a picture. Mine extends further from the top of the headstock to the bottom tuning pegs. It's really amazing work...and it plays as great as it looks! The only thing I'm a little disappointed with is the finish on the body. It's not glass smooth like my D 10. It's a little rough. I take it this is from humidity and temperature extremes over the life of the guitar. Other than that, it's pretty flawless. Thanks for the info. I sent the information to Larrivee.
Hi Guitarenvy,
Thanks for posting this. I think that once you get up to 10 posts you will be able to upload a picture. I'd love to see that headstock. Mine is a seahorse although you can't see it through the flash flare. Here it is (right) beside my C38 Classical.

I was inspired by your post and I dug out my J10. I haven't played it in awhile and it was really nice to get reacquainted.
And others might disagree, but you sure can get some nice finger pickin' done on a Jumbo.
That was fun.
I bought my J-10-12Maple new in 2004. It was one of the last ones made. I think maybe 2005 the J's were discontinued, although I recall seeing a couple new ones trickle out for a while.

ST,
Nice looking guitars. I took a picture of the headstock to send you, but I don't think I can. I don't think picture posting is enabled. This forum has more security and rules than my bank! Some day I'll be elevated to the picture posting stratosphere that the rest of you take for granted!
