Hello Folks,
i hope you don´t killing me  - but my 2 Larry´s become a big brother: Today i ordered a new Martin HD-35.
We have more gigs now and i don´t want to use my Larrivee´s on stage because i´m afraid about dings, scratches etc. Only when we have maybe "big" and for the guitar more "secure" gigs in the future the larrivees will be used on stage too :whistling:
.
The Martin will be used as loud and bassy guitar on every gig we have and has to all the work :bgrin:
I hope you understand this, :cheers
Greg
Gregor--
Congratulations on your new Martin and all your scheduled gigs. The Martin is a fine guitar, and who could blame you for protecting those beautiful Larrivees from the rigors of the road.

Congrats Greor, you're gonna make few people jealous. Theres been a bit of talk about D-35s and HD-35s here lately.
Hmmmm....another Martin sneaks its way into the Larrivee Forum. I see a trend happening... :cop:
Cheers, Scott.
:nice guitar:
I still want one but can't afford one. I envy you.
Yes, the Martin just helped to save the Larrivee's! :nanadance
I don't know how the Martin HD-35 sounds that i have ordered. But when she arrived i can post pics-but i don't know is there somebody interested to see pics of a Martin here?! :laughin:
Greg
Neil, i can let you know if i don't like her and sell it to you!

Cheers, Scott.
Of course  but she needs some time to swim from florida the long way to austria... :rolleye:
Greg
I finally played my first two HD-35 models this year and both were special. I am confident that you will be very happy with your decision.
As you can see, I am a big believer in the 35 series too.
This is why i like Larrivee's so much-not only the sound: Because the owners of Larrivee's and people in this forum are so great! :thumb
I told i bought a Martin and you guys are happy with me! That's really great from you! :donut :coffee :donut2 :donut
Greg
Not all of us are "exclusively" Larrivee owners. I have 4 Larrivees but also a Gibson and a Guild. If I was going to get a Martin the HD-35 would be the one. Don't worry; we're all friends here. Show us some pics when you get it and enjoy the heck out of it.

Heh heh heh - I guarantee you're gonna love it. I still wouldn't be able to afford it, anyway.
BTW - you seriously haven't played one? Jeez - I've been practically stalking the HD-35 at my local store for 3 years now. It's like a D-28 on steroids. I couldn't make it break up no matter how hard I hit the strings.
Neil, no i don't have a HD-35 in my hands before i ordered this one. There's no dealer who have this model. There are not much Martin Dealers in vienna. It's rare like a Larriee! By the way: I orderd my Larrys "blind" also. But when i order a Larrivee i know what i get and i'm at home. Not so with a Martin. I tested a D-28 only in a store and she don't blew me away. At the last gig i played with a Martin D-18 from 1971. This is a guitar from my friend. This one is really nice!
So When we're playing a gig or for jaming i use his 1971 Martin and he play with a Larrivee D-10.
So who knows-maybe i don't like the HD-35. But i don't think so...

Greg:
Yesterday, I walked into Trinity Guitars new shop which was crowded because of a Martin Clinic and Jim walked over and handed me a case with an HD-35 in it. It's a totally difference sound from my 32 year old D-35 and was a dirty trick for Jim to play on me. I played it next to an HD-28 and I while I would have been happy with either, I would have taken the HD-35 hands first.
Over the years I have heard that the 35 series is better for solo and the 28 series is better for a band setting but I think with proper amplification, you won't have any trouble making yourself heard.
Don't be afraid of scuffs and dings. That's part of the aging process. My D-35 has a neat groove from pick wear at the rosette and the lacquer on the binding has yellowed. Classy.
Thank you for this teh!
Why isn´t the HD-35 good for playing with a band or a companion? If it´s right, the HD-35 stands for a loud, boomy and bassy sound. Yes, i know it´s perfect when i play alone and sing (it´s better to hear more from the guitar than my voice :bgrin:), but if she´s to bassy when played for example with a Larrivee D-10, so i can regulate this setting with the amplification (i hope!! :?)
or there other problems when playing with other instruments?
But sometimes i play alone too.. so it´s hard to find the perfect instruments for all situations... or - buying a HD-28 and a HD-35 :guitar

So, now here it is: The pics! :guitar :cheers

Wow Greg that's an awesome Guitar! - congrats!
And as far as I know that's one of the responsive "standard" Martins with 1/4" bracing.
Hope you 're happy with it as I'm sure you are!!!
Very nice. No reason to apologize - there are other builders making great guitars.
What Larrivees do you have? Wouldn't it make sense to "protect" your new Martin from the rigours of the road? :winkin:
Thank you Zohn and willguitar! :cheers
Yes the Martin is a beauty too - but damn - which guitar shall i use now on stage? :bgrin:
Greg
Here are my brazilian Larrys:

Oh undoubtedly you bought the right stage guitar (the Martin).
Unless the stage is 2 kilometres wide, and you're the only one performing and with 2 bodyguards... :winkin:
:roll
Great Looking Guitar. Now, how does it sound and play?
I didn't understand at first but now I can understand the reluctance to take those two Larrivees on stage.

 nah, we don't want to see know pics of the oldest guitar company in North America making an outstanding guitar. Why on earth would we want to see that :whistling:
I like D-35's as well, wouldn't mind having one someday. My FAVORITE D-35 is the Johnny Cash model, but it lists for over $5K !!!
We still need a full review of playability and tone!!!
Hmm.. i´m afraid i´m forced to let her go before i can really play with her :crying: . I have to move in a new appartment and now i need money for all the stuff like kitchen, bedroom, livingroom - damn - for all!! :crying:
Greg
Say what?!
That was sudden?!?!
:?
The house in that i live (a apartment in the house) is old and now the house must be completly rebuild (it´s not in good condition anymore). For this time (ca. 6 years) i must live in another apartment in another house. This apartment is new but completly empty. So i need much money for all the things (kitchen, bed, chairs etc.) because i can´t live just in empty rooms :rolleye:. And that´s the point that i´m thinking to sell the new Martin maybe... :?
Greg
Man, that sucks. I hate to see such bouts of anti-GAS. Hopefully you won't have to take such drastic measures.
Oh no it´s all but no Anti-GAS! :cop:
I better live without a kitchen before i let this happen!! :roll

LOL! I'm glad we understand each other. I've known people who've lived on raman noodles all through college just so they could afford a nice stage guitar. Why should this be any different? ;)
Personally, I'd be embezzling grocery money from my wife if I didn't have kids to feed!
:bgrin:
i understand you!! I have no kids - so i can do the money-thing with my girlfriend!! :roll :roll
Greg
The HD-35 is one sweeet dreadnaugh! :thumb
