CONGRATS, Man, nice guitar. I'm kickin' myself now for letting go a L-03 for only 1400 AUD, about 800 US. GEEEZZZ!!! That hurts!! I'm happy for you, Man. YES!! When you join this 'Forum' you need to own a bank, cause you'll end up owning 'Jean' too.  :humour:
Cheers

Thanks Fongie... I'm really looking forward to this one. I've tried a lot of guitars and certainly have some favorites, like anyone, but I'm a newcomer to the Larrivee fold. The L shape is just such a perfect concept for what I like to do and the boom from the all sapele guitar should cover a lot of what I have a variety of guitars doing right now.

My God... that sounds so serious... I'm just a hobby player having fun at home!

Was that Jim's personal guitar you bought? Regardless, congratulations. And yes, the word "Enabling" is missing between the words "Larrivee" and "Forum"!

No, the one I got was a sapele top. The one he mentioned that was his guitar wasn't, unless this was too, but he didn't mention it being used, just somewhat older stock. I spoke to him personally, so I'm sure he would have said something about it. Wouldn't have mattered one way or the other.

I remember Jim's personal L-03SP-top being for sale on his site.  I believe it sold pretty quickly.  He glossed the whole thing and it looked pretty sweet!

Actually, as of this morning, it's still listed in the used guitar section.

I polished a Martin 000-15 one time. I used a chrome polish that came from an auto parts store and it worked really well and was easy to do, with just a little patience thrown in. The parts that are just the slightest bit difficult are the edges where things turn corners, like up against the neck and against the bridge, but a credit card with a diaper folded over it did the trick pretty well.

The Martin came out with a level of shine that looked like fine furniture. Once I realized how it was coming out, I also realized how much more I actually liked it than a mirror gloss from the lacquer or poly we see on guitars every day now. I'm a wood freak anyway and something like a furniture patina just screams quality to me.

The new L03SP with the all sapele body and top might just get a shine after a while. All it would take is one bad night of television to get me started.

Quick story, do the math... bad afternoon for tv before football season started, plus with a cheap Alvarez dread that wasn't moving on Craigslist... multiplied by drill and saw... equals sound port. I'll still sell the guitar and case for it, but what an amazing difference it made!

I am truly dangerous.

And happy new year everybody!
Dennis

Great story!

I guess my memory failed me with respect to Jim's guitar for sale on his site.  For some reason I remember it being a sapele-topped L when I first saw it - oops.  Now that I take a look at it, the price sure seems right for such a well taken care of git.  Too bad I am beyond broke.

Maybe he had more than one, but there's only a spruce top model on there now.

I did get a shipping notice today. This time next week, I should be grinning from ear to ear and trying to find ways to avoid working so I can play my new guitar.

L-Fan,  I did have a SP top L03 that i glossed up. Problem is that when ever I select a guitar for myself all the local guys want to buy it. Now you need high level top secret clearance to know what I am playing.

How many guitars do I have to buy from you Jim, before I get a secret clearance? Thanks for the great price and quick shipping. It's been a pleasure yacking with you the past few days.

Someday when you find yourself in Miami, the beer and dinner is on me!    :cheers

Yep! My daughter lives in Ridgefield, Connecticut and lost power for about 8 hours last week. She sent pictures of my grandkids in the snow and they didn't look happy. I am totally spoiled living in Miami.

Fedex, the nice people in their patriotic red, white and blue, (truly great Americans), have gotten my guitar through the Orlando terminal and on its way to Miami for delivery tomorrow.

With any luck, it'll arrive before lunch so I can drop it at home on my way outbound to eat and do the shopping for the folk concert at work Saturday night.

Here it is... Very different tone than my Taylor jumbo, also sapele, but it has mediums on it and I don't know what the Larrivee has arrived with. I'll just play them out for a few days and them put on something heavy as I like. Amazing difference in tone based on pick selection. It's much more noticeable than on some other guitars. I winder why that is?

Why am I suddenly craving HAM???

I may have worn out the strings already. At least I know I've worn out my fingers. Compared to my other guitars, this isn't as boomy as a Martin may have been, but it has something about it I like. I have a feeling these are light strings, so a set of phosphor bronze mediums would probably move the tone in the direction I like.

I put heavy chrome tuner buttons on it and put the ebony away. I don't know why the ebony doesn't look right to me, but no big deal. It already has a bone saddle. So, I guess I'll try a set of basswood or bone bridge pins I have and see how they sound, (if there's any difference), and the strings like I mentioned.

Tomorrow night I'll be home alone, so I can bang on guitars as much as I want. By Friday, I should be ready to do all this experimentation.

This is definitely a guitar you can catch yourself staring at. The reddish sapele with the cream colored maple around it just tends to make me stare.

I don't know fongie... maybe not so much another guitar as getting back to lessons.  Ever since one particular teacher I had moved to the west coast of Florida, I haven't been able to stick with any particular teacher, either because we couldn't communicate or in the case of the last one, who is still a friend, because my money got tight and I simply had to stop shelling out $40 an hour every week. I'd like to get back to lessons more than looking for another guitar.

Time to get to work!

There's a rumor to that effect, but nobody has been able to prove it. It's just a rumor.    :doh
