Title: New ivory saddle and bridge pins on my L-10
Post by: rbrown on March 28, 2007, 06:41:39 PM
Recently I asked the forum about the advisability of modifying a walrus ivory saddle to exact specs for my L-10, or seeking help from a luthier.  I opted to use my brother who is an expert machinist.  Using his micrometers, and some small files he milled the saddle to the EXACT measurements of the original bone saddle.  It came out fabulous.  I would personally recommend this route to others as it made me feel so confident that the new saddle would not mess with action or intonation.

As for sonic qualities, I immediately noticed an increase in the complexity of the tone and the bass to treble balance.  I play mostly fingerstyle in alternate tunings and the change was especially perceptable in this format.

The pins and saddle look gorgeous, and truly bring out the richness of the spruce top.  This has been a completely satisfying upgrade.  :nanadance :nana_guitar
