If you don't know it was mainly a joke... "All music is folk music; I don't know of any dog music" or somthing like that. It was a play on words where folk means people. ex. 'some folks around here...'

'Folk' can mean almost anything in music.

Hey Bears:  Sorry about them monkees on your post.  I was trying to lighten it up a little.

When I originally read this phrase, it got me to thinking.  I shouldn't aughta done dat. (folk phrase)

Here is some info comparing folk to traditional music in different countries and the blending of folk and popular genres.

I am not sure if I totally agree with that or not. I'll have to ponder it for a few days and then come up with a witty answer! :thumbsup
I do know that my son-in-law's Irish band plays some old tunes that sound a lot like bluegrass. The old timey and bluegrass music has a lot of roots in Irish music. It's all logical, but it took me years to figure this one out.
I am not sure where Kid Rock fits into this one, but I'll think about it...

Hi Eljefe

I actually appreciated the gag on The Monkeys, thanks. It's essential that we keep a sense of humor about such heady issues as morality.

I agree with Jeremy3223,

Jazz musician Louis Armstrong and blues musician Big Bill Broonzy have both been attributed the remark
"All music is folk music. I ain't never heard a horse sing a song."

The above is from Wikipedia, so you know it's true.

Peace

"All Music Is Folk Music" ... Hmmmmm ...

Well, I is folk ... I ain't a horse or a dog ... And I like to play folk music ... the REAL issue, according to anyone listening to me, is whether what I am playing is called MUSIC or NOISE ...   :cheers
