Hello,

This may be an FAQ or one of the dumb questions.
When people think of Larrivee guitars, which model would be more Larrive-like than others, among L(LV)-xx, D-xx, OM(OMV)-xx, SD-xx, and P-xx models?
I have owned D10E and D03, and I liked them very much, but I cannot tell any unique Larrive-likeness on those two guitars, and I cannot tell much differences from others that I owned, including Takamines, Yamahas, and few other Dreadnaughs.

So, which Larrivee model do you think is most representative and speaks out loud? It does not have to be the flag shop models.

L/LV prolly an L-05
05 Larrivee LV-05 (L.R. Baggs Imix)
03 Paul Reed Smith Custom 24
99 Fender DG-24 MA
Mesa Boogie Road King II Head & Mesa Road King 2x12 Cab

For me it is without a doubt the L-09.  Larrivee's steal string bread and butter from early on was there oversized classical shaped rosewood guitars.  Micro dot fret markers and clear pickguard complete the picture.

+1 for the L body.

The L body is the quintessential Larrivee.

The L body is unique to Larrivee and, I think, was the first steel string built by Jean Larrivee. It should, therefore, be considered to be the most Larrivee-like Larrivee.

But, is the quintessential Larrivee the mahogany or rosewood versions? The Larrivee construction does bring out the best in mahogany, but what are your opinions on the classic Larrivee tone?

I think if you could pick one and only one guitar from each manufacturer the Larrivee would have to be a L-05 or some variation of it.

I gotta throw out a vote for the OM's    you just can't beat them for versatility.....I have found over and over, they yield a lot better string separation than the L's......given the L is the "Larrivee" body size......I just think the OM's are too sweet

Distinctly "Larrivee"?

I think it has to be the L series. Over time I've grown to really love my LV-05MT.

For a while, it was tough to stop playing my MT parlor, but, overall, tone, playability, & ergonomic comforts go to the L. It just begs to be played. My Everett has beautiful tone and intonation, but the L just lets me concentrate on the music rather than the guitar.

I think the fact that it is so balanced, folks tend to underrate it. No flash: all guitar.

Most definitely the L body is the style that defined Larrivee from the beginning as a Luthier that wanted to offer something other than the Gibson or Martin standards. This was a concious, and succesful effort on Jean's part.
