Very cool, congrats! I could be wrong, but if Moon wood is the same as Italian Spruce than I have owned a similar OO for over a decade and the Italian spruce gives it a really nice tone different from sitka.

Did you spring for any added bling? Gonna keep the pickguard on it? Standard bridge width or wider?

No special bling, no pickguard, standard bridge.

I really appreciate alpine spruce (moon wood)... I don't know what Italian spruce is.

I like the fret markers on the legacy 40's... I'm more into the sound than looks... but I do like the looks of American Walnut...

Oh re-tired, one other thing, there's no such thing as a *last Larrivée*.

Good luck with your custom order. You will be pleased with that body style and wood combination and you have two other nice guitars to play while you're waiting. When I placed my last custom order for a 00 in mid May 2004, it was shipped and in my hands by the first week of October, about 4.5 months from order to delivery. Jean, John Jr. and Matt will take good care of you. A question for your fellow forum nerds:

What is the scale length on your guitar? I have 25.5" scale on my Forum VI and a 24.75" scale on my 00 and I am comfortable with both. I also have scalloped bracing on both guitars. I also upgraded to bridge pins with abalone dots when the pro shop had a sale (Tortoise on the FVI and black ebony on the 00 to match the vine headstock inlay). That's worth considering.

"Moon" Alpine, Italian, German, Carpathian, etc., are all the same species: European spruce. The altitude they grow is said to contribute to different physical properties (not to mention the varying harvest methods, which is where the "moon" part comes from). All I know is, Euro spruce is a great tonewood. It's light and stiff (lighter on average than Adi) and works beautifully in guitars. It goes all the way back to the early Spanish building days of Torres. A tried and true top wood.

I think it's an excellent choice for a Larrivee build!

Thanks for that, BlueBowman, I wasn't sure enough about that, but I've read that all those are basically the same wood save for differences in climate where grown.

I'm fortunate enough to have both as well. A very rare 24.75 scale OOV with sitka spruce/mahogany and the 25.5 scale 00-05 with Italian spruce. Given they're both over 10 years old I'm gonna guess non-scalloped. As near as my aging ears can tell, the OOV has a mellower tone than the OO-O5 which seems "richer" somehow. That's about as good as I can offer. I can't seem to part with either one.

Since I play almost exclusively with a capo, switching between the shorter scale neck and the standard makes zero difference to me as my capo placement has a greater effect on my left hand fretting notes.
