I'd be curious to know if you have ever seen or played a Moon Guitar made in Scotland?

You are are in the know!

I haven't had a chance to play them (actually... maybe far, FAR back I might have tried one... if it's the one I remember then TBH I preferred my Larrivee)

Have you tried them?

Guitarman,

I haven't had a chance to see or play a Moon guitar but I am intrigued. I did manage to see and hear Dougie Maclean play his Moon twice in two separate venues in the states through a combination of luck and great timing. On the plus side, I'm really happy with my five Larrivees too.

Over the years, I've been to the Martin Factory in Nazareth about 15 times since I bought my first Martin in early 1977, Huss & Dalton in VA once and Larrivee in Oxnard once last year. On a side note, about 12 years ago  I was able to spend three days in Glasgow and found the house my grandfather was born I back in 1895. I wish I had done more research about  Scottish luthiers in advance and had more time but I was traveling with three other people.

I had never hard of Moon guitars till this thread.  Per the site, they have built for a lot of great artists.  They look like great instruments.

teh, very cool that you are into all things re your Scottish heritage.

I've sadly not tried a Huss & Dalton but they sound good, to my ear.

Visiting the factories would be a dream. I've only been to East coast USA for work and for Disney World!

I live midway between Edinburgh and Glasgow so get to visit both regularly. I really like that you tracked down your granddad's old house.

Re independents I've tried some custom luthier guitars that just don't do it for me, despite being hand built and expensive. Same for many very expensive brands (and thank heavens). Larrivee has been a dream find for me.

G-man, if you're ever back on the east coast, reach out and let's see if I can get you over to the Martin guitar factory for a tour. It's no Larrivee tour, but it's a great visit.

I have a visitor's visa so it's a 5-6 hour flight. Could be a go-er at some point, thanks!!
