Here is an interesting video of boutique maker Driftwood Guitars zero fret model and their reasons for making one. Other guitar makers like Bob Taylor give their thoughts on the zero-fret guitar. My first two guitars were Epiphone classicals with a zero fret.

I have opinions about driftwood that I won't share. Regarding zero frets, I think they're superior ON PAPER. But, I'm an artistic sense, I prefer bone. Reason being, there's a magic to the open note sounding different and I like being able to play off of that. It's a sort of "zing" on those open strings and sometimes it's really part of the tone. Technically, it's sort of a flaw because it sounds different to the fretted notes. But, I like it.

I just looked up driftwood guitars. Starting price $25,000 dollars. No thanks, I'd rather have a car.

I have owned guitars with zero frets and installed a few even on my first 12 string to get lower action.BUT i down beleive buying a kit and just put it on a guitar is is a good thing if there is nothing wrong with the guitar in the  first place. As for a well built it would turn me off as do glueing frets in.

Wow, I looked them up too.  Pretty! but too pretty for me.  More like wall-hangers in an art gallery than guitars to be played.

I don't follow Driftwood that often. They used to review guitars and would at one point saw them up to see what was inside. The funniest one was where they saw open a Gibson and found a dry wall screw holding it together.

I heard that the drywall screw  gives Gibson that "dry thump" sound that people like.  :humour:
