What is the highest price you've seen for a Larrivee?

None of my six string Larrivees have a pick guard. Leaving the guard off highlights the quality and grain of the tops which include Sitka, Moonwood Spruce, Mahogany and Quilted Maple. I figure I can always add a pick guard in the future if I want or need to.

I even removed the old square clear guard from my Larrivee.  Now the top is all beat up but it adds character to my guitar.  The old clear guards weren't bad but they would discolor over time and become quite an eye-sore (to me anyway).

It's irritating how someone put a gibson pickguard on a larrivee, as if to say they wanted the larrivee for its quality, but wanted to be seen playing a Gibson.

Most of my guitars do not have pickguards. Some, because they came that way. Others, because I ordered them that way. Still others, because I removed them from the guitars.

There is a back story to this Larrivee ad,when I first saw it for sale,I phoned the store, the owner told me he had it for sale on a concession deal, the guitar came from the estate of its lately deceased owner, and his next of kin were selling off his collection,he apparently collected expensive ( blingy) guitars,he was a retired rich businessman, and liked to display them around his house,he wasn't a player, he just liked the look of the guitars, when I quizzed the store owner about the Gibson pick guard,he told me that the owner had had it carried out " professionally ", I replied that he'd be stuck trying to shift a beautiful acoustic like that, with half the soundhole ring Abalone covered by the pick guard, he answered that maybe the buyer could remove it if desired, anyway,it was during Covid, when I first saw it advertised, and I wasn't about to travel anywhere to check a guitar out,and so,here it pops up again for sale- at nearly twice what he was asking for it in the first sale.

Concession deal or consignment?

Even if you took off that stupid batwing pickguard, the sun tan would remain. However, a big bumper sticker that says "eat the rich" could probably cover that surface area.  :humour:

If there was ever a topic as inflammatory as politics or religion, the pick guard is right up there. For everyone offended by a flowery Gibson guard there's someone who thinks a no guard guitar looks like a piece of bread. Hopefully we can respect, and maybe even appreciate, that we all have different tastes.

Agreed. Sentimentally, I admit my thoughts are driven by a hidden jealousy. It's like seeing a new Mercedes with giant chrome wheels and saying to myself, "How dare they!! I would NEVER!!"
I have to remind myself: Not my circus. Not my monkeys.
