Happy Independence Day to Forum Members and a belated blessing to our Canadian members who celebrated Canada Day on July 1st.

It's a good day to pause and reflect on the significance of this date and to remember that Thomas Jefferson drafted the declaration while in seclusion for 17 days. What's even more interesting is the fact that he wrote this document in longhand on parchment paper using only a quill pen (aka bird feather) and an inkwell. I wonder how he would have changed it using Word and autocorrect.

I've probably posted this before but the special edition guitar built by Huss & Dalton using wood species that are native to Jefferson's home state, The Commonwealth of Virginia, makes for interesting reading. The story goes that the tree used to harvest the wood was in the front yard of Monticello and was planted while Jefferson lived there. .

Thanks for this post, teh.
I finally made it to Monticello about 7 or 8 years ago. As beautiful as it is interesting and historically significant.
Nice 5 minute video from your link.

I remember reading somewhere about how when Jefferson would take a break from writing, he'd play his violin.  To have been a fly on the wall. . .

Happy Fourth!

We went to Monticello four years ago and managed to tour the Huss & Dalton shop in Staunton VA while we were in the neighborhood. Great guitars but a little out of my price range. Maybe I'll find a used one some day. We also took a tour of Woodrow Wilson's house which made for a great day.

Happy 4th! The week of fireworks begins  :crying:
Since they legalized them a few years back, the 4th and NYE have become kickoffs for several evenings worth of fireworks. Being a night owl with a dog who doesn't care, the fireworks don't really bother me. It is odd though, trying to drive in the evening and seeing a california-like fog rolling down the streets.
