I get inquiries from customers all the time trying to join the forum and giving up because of this question. I would ask the administrators to consider making the question a little more friendly. Am I correct in assuming...

What does 2 x seven times -3 equal(answer in all caps)

answer: MINUSFORTYTWO

2x7x(-3) = -42

Thanks for bringing that up. I don't think they had this when I signed up. I'm decent with math but that phrasing is confusing.
Also, I wouldn't have known the uke question until recently.

We have had a huge spike in spam attacks this year.
Think: 50 per day!
Almost all attacks are from Russia, but Asia too.
I can't be on this forum 24/7 to beat back every bot busting in here to sully this forum.
I will remove these questions and personally approve each new member based on username and IP address which can take a day. Or two sometimes.

You are correct.

When I used my flash cards to learn multiplication in grade school back in the early 1960s, I was always taught that multiplying a positive number by a negative number always resulted in a negative number. Since this is a guitar forum, this might be a more relevant math question to use as a gatekeeper:

What is the difference between 1 & 11/16" and 1 & 3/4"? The correct answer is 1/16". 🤔

Along with the videos posted to the Larrivee Guitar website, this forum is a good source of information. Thanks for building such great and affordable guitars.

OK.
All new membership questions have been removed.
Captcha test is still on and is set to "light" (in other words "easy").
All new members still require admin approval.
AI (artificial intelligence) has made it very easy for bots to bust in here as a new member to spam this place, selling fake prescription drugs and everything else, sullying this forum.

I approved four new members this morning, along with an email notifying/welcoming them to the Larrivee Forum.

It's sad that folk such as Queequeg have to deal with so much nonsense just to help run a forum.

Count me as very thankful.

I'm also kind of amazed that people are complaining to Larrivée, about a simple way to get through the sign up process.
I think most folk using the internet are aware of necessary measures required to keep things running smoothly.

To be clear, no one is complaining. Folks are just confused about the question. I know I was. They always come to us naturally for help signing up, not knowing it is run independently.  I agree with you, we are also very grateful for Queequeg. Moderating a forum is no easy job. If there is anything we can do here at Larrivée to help improve things, let us know. You know how to find me.  - jr.

That's how I understood it. I recently tried to sign up for an even smaller guitar forum (SCGC) and it was impossible because of the bugs in their system. I emailed the guitar shop and they were happy to get in contact with the forum admin. They were happy to find out what was going on and got new members after that. Similar to what will happen here. The more people participating in the Larrivee forum, the better it is for Larrivee so I don't see those as complaints at all. Just Larrivee fans wanting to participate.

I thought we had three mods in this group.
If not, we have a problem.

Most active members here might be surprised to learn that there are a total of five (5) mods/admins.
But you're right. It's a problem right now.
One that I intend to resolve very soon.

One thing I think is pretty cool is how this forum stays so civil and welcoming that the Larrivee company doesn't mind being associated with it.  I just wish there was more traffic here so there could be more discussions.

I recently joined FB tom check out Larrivee Guitar Owners and Larrivee Guitars. I didn't find any interesting discussions except for mine LOL, just a bunch of posts by people showing their Larrivee guitars. I'm thinking of leaving FB. The other reason I joined was the Village I live in has their own site. I was finding things out from neighbors second hand. Now I can find out when it happens. This is easily the best Larrivee site.

I joined the Larrivee Forum in November 2007 which was 3 & 1/2 years after I bought my first Larrivee. Since that time, I have gained a lot of perspective and insights about the company and their products. I do wish I was more well versed with technology and applaud the efforts of the mods to manage this forum and keep the misbehavers in line. The fact that John Jr. and Matt weigh in from time to time with comments or to seek our input is an added bonus.

Regarding Facebook: When I was still working full time, I used to get between 250 and 400 daily emails depending on the day of the week. The thing that drove me crazy was when a group e-mail would go out and about 1/2 the recipients would hit "reply all" when responding. To me Facebook is just a variation of e-mail so I'm not a member of very many FB groups now that I'm retired.

I signed up for this Forum a while back,as I was getting so fed up with FB Forums, you couldnt ( or cannot) have a decent, constructive conversation about guitars, without some jackass comments, Everyone is an expert, their view is gospel,do not contradict me or else.

Anyway,I'm fine with this format, there are some genuinely interesting members, who seem willing and able to help in any way they can, isn't this how it should be all the time.

I like this place because it's the digital equivalent to club/pub, vs big forums or facebook groups which are more like a festival (noisy and crowded). People here aren't over-stating their opinions to try to cut through the noise. Conversations here somehow feel more meaningful, even if they are viewed by far fewer people.

I agree with all that, plus the accumulated knowledge base is huge, and easily searched. Members who are no longer here live on through their old contributions. People who don't like the "forum" format overlook that our particular forum is the Larrivee Britannica.

Well said.  There are no passive aggressive comments as I've come across when happening upon some thread in AGF or the gear pages.

Most topics here we see a handful of familiar usernames and just as many thoughtful responses and insights.  I do wish there was more traffic at times but I guess it can be a blessing and a curse.  Maybe we should make the skill testing question more difficult lol

To answer your question, yes, MINUSFORTYTWO seems to fit the keyhole.

Another customer is having difficulty joining the Forum because of "the" question. I thought the questions were removed.

In fact, they were removed a couple of weeks back.
My only explanation for that is that the forum  may have been restored from a backup.
I removed them again and saved the changes. Again.
New members still require approval.
With apologies, again.
