Hi. I was wondering if anyone has changed out the tuners on any of the 40 series guitars.  I'm not very happy with the stock ones as these seem to really vary in accuracy.  I'm looking at Gotoh sxb 510's. Any input? :donut

I changed the tuners on my slothead Taylor 312 and it was a drop in replacement with no surprises. That era had some really awful tuners that had quite a bit of lag. I can't imagine a tuner swap would be any different on your Larrivee.

If it's under warranty I'd check into that first, but I wouldn't hesitate to replace them. The process is entirely reversible if you don't like how it turns out.

One thing I wish I did during my swap was to find a way to lube the headstock hole that the tuner post fits into. While it tunes accuractly I do get more "creaks" and "pops" than I'd like when tuning but that's the nature of metal on wood, I suppose.

Being that it's a 40 series, they're geared tuners, right? Not 3 on side? I can't help with that but I thought I'd ask as I've changed them on 50/60 series.

Yes, they are geared tuner 3 per side.

The 000-40R use the traditional open back geared tuners, the newer ones use Grover
18-1 based upon the original Waverly tuners. They are pictured on Larrivee's website:

Each individual Grover or Waverly open geared tuner use two screws, the Gotoh 510 use only one which won't line up with the existing bottom screw hole which means you will have to drill a new hole and have the original holes exposed. Additionally the post holes will be most likely need to be enlarged since the 510 bushings screw into the tuners whereas the original bushings are pushed in. Finally Gotoh are metric while Grover's are standard. The Gotoh 510 tuners however, are drop in replacements for any Larrivee using the standard Ping tuners (both are metric)  My 2015 000-40MT had upgraded Waverly tuners that were only 16-1 but they stay in tune work fine for me. If you plan to change tuners always check if  you replacing metric or standard ones and check the internet for spec/measurement schematics to guarantee that they are drop-in and need no modification. Hope this helps!
