I have a vintage Larrivee for sale.  It was my aunts. Made in Victoria, BC Canada model L35.  I can no longer play this instrument.  I live in southern California, USA and I am interested in selling.

Well, you've come to the right place, but it's not as simple as you thought. Forum rules are such that you need ten posts in order to be able to put up pictures. You have 2 now, so reply to this and others and we'll get you to 10. Then take some pics and do your best to describe it's condition as far as dent's in the finish as well as any fret wear plus we'd need to know if the original case in included.

The L is a popular body size here and there is likely someone who might wish to buy it or offer advice on how to.

Condolences on your aunt's passing.

There was a time when this was true, however the number of posts before a member can upload images has been reduced to 0 (zero).

Thank you for your condolences. I think I will always be missing her...the price of love.  Anyway, I will work on getting pictures and descriptions.  Thank you for the advice.

I was hoping this group would give me an idea or bids.  I did get a quote from the Larrivee Service Department(don't know if I am allowed to name the person) for $5500. I am in southern california, USA so I was hoping to find a local collector since shipping might be an issue.

That quote is ludicrous, and I say that as a happy L35 owner (83~84 model, hand built by JCL). Perhaps why they are giving such a high price is because they want to discourage orders, or offering a generous replacement quote for insurance purposes.

Estimating pricing for an instrument without detailed pictures is impossible. In absolute pristine, museum grade condition a collector may offer 1/3 to 1/2 of that figure, imo.

One way of pricing a used guitar is going to Reverb.com and typing in your model then seeing what's being offered.

So here's one listed https://reverb.com/marketplace?query=larrivee%20L35 which has been up for 7 months. So that's your competition basically. It has some unfortunate finish marks on the soundboard and side which for me would drop what I'd be willing to pay about 15% or so. The action looks too high as well. That it's a nylon guitar is going to limit the pool of potential buyers as well as steel string acoustics are more popular. The $5500 quote you got might be what a new one retails for perhaps.

This particular listing is a good example, imho, of what buyers want to see and read described so you might use that as a template for listing yours if you decide to. Best of luck.

Thanks for the resources! I will definitely use them.

Thanks for the info Ron.
Here is copy of email...Replacement value for an L-35 (serial #7279) is approximately $5500 USD MSRP. Get back to me if you have any further questions. - jr.  Not sure what USD MSRP means.

I do plan on posting pics of guitar and case. Just got to figure out how to get that posted in this forum...I am a senior with technological challenges, LOL  :winkin:
Thanks for taking time out to answer my post, Ron

USD MSRP is US dollars, manufacturer's stated retail price, and it's always higher than what is offered in the real market by stores.

As others have stated, it's difficult to assess the value of your guitar without any photos or details about the guitar's condition and playability. I haven't seen a Larrivee L-35 before but I have an old catalog with L-30 and LV-30 classical guitars listed from around 2007.

Replacement Value generally means what it would cost to build (re-create) a new guitar with the same specifications at today's prices while MSRP means Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price. For example, I bought a new Larrivee Parlor P-03 in 2004 and paid $500 for it. The current MSRP from Larrivee's website for a P-03 is $2,499 for a Spruce/Mahogany model. Since my guitar was a Special Edition (from a run of 100 guitars) with Flamed Maple Back and Sides, I suspect that today's replacement value would be higher.

That doesn't mean that I could sell my 21 year old P-03 for current MSRP or full replacement value; it will only sell for what someone is willing to pay. I would rate my parlor between VERY GOOD and EXCELLENT condition but I suspect that it would sell for $1,000 tops in today's market even with the Maple back and sides and hardshell case. Based on my experience with parlor guitars, people including Larrivee owners either love them or they don't. It's a matter of finding the right buyer.

If I were in your shoes, I would take the guitar to a reputable dealer and see if they would sell it on consignment for you. They generally keep 15-20% of the final selling cost as a commission in my area but you have to ask what they charge in your area. That also relieves you of the burden of shipping, cost of set-up, any repairs or string changes. You could also offer it to a guitar playing family member or friend. Good luck.

For comparison: LS-35 on Facebook Marketplace

I wouldn't expect anyone to pay the replacement cost Larrivée quoted you.
