Not what it used to be, that's for sure. We got very few trick or treaters and it was over by 6:30. I kept walking out to the curb but couldn't see a kid on the block so I shut out the porch light. Lots of left over chocolate, fortunately or not. My theory? buy good treats because you might have to eat them yourselves!  :laughin:

Our neighborhood was packed and we had a blast.

Location. Location. Location. We're only a few blocks from Main and Fulton which is the main intersection of town but still a little off the beaten track, apparently. I think there just aren't a lot of kids anymore. Lots of seniors though.

Did the opposite here. We used to only get about 20 or so but, after the pandemic, the numbers shot up to about 80 the last 3 years. People really got a new appreciation for going out and doing things after being locked down in 2020. Also, there's fewer local events and more people are going house to house.

I grew up in this house and I think the numbers were the same almost 40 years ago. One thing I notice is that they are going out earlier. It gets dark at 5:45 and about 80% of them are done by 6:45. When I was a kid you used a pillow case because the little bucket wouldn't hold the amount of candy you'd gather in 2+hours. Also, now they all have parents with them whereas only the littlest ones had parents with them when I was a kid. I think that's a good change, seeing parents more involved. This might also be why I never see houses get TP'd or pumpkins smashed on Halloween anymore.

Yeah, it's become more of a family thing these days, and I think that's great. When I was a teen back in the early 90s, we were an absolute terror in our town.  I still remember one year when a group of us (all disguised) were together and a cop pulls up.  He tells us we'd better behave.  As he was pulling away, one of my friends through a huge rock through his back window that landed in the back seat of his squad car.  We all ran and none of us got caught. Absolute insanity.  As a grown man, I shudder to think of the damage we did to property, and the loss of faith in humanity we contributed to.

We don't really do Halloween in our condo association. If you keep your outdoor lights off, nobody comes to your door. And I never see any lights on. But on a more guitarist topic related to Halloween, I came across this video with tabs for the Halloween Theme Song.

I have to assume that's from the Halloween movies. I've never seen one.

Yes, it is. I believe it was written by movie horror maker Wes Craven.

Ah so. I'm aware he is a big name in horror. Never liked the genre, however. They're either too stupid or too disturbing for the likes of me.

In our very rural area, the only trick or treaters we get are when some neighbors bring their two young daughters to our house, by car, mostly so we can say hi and see the girls' getups. My wife still buys enough treats for a small army, and the bowl seems to empty itself. Any serious trick or treating takes place about 8 miles away in the nearest small town.

We got 8 groups of kids, very few compared to years gone by.  They started later, too. I read that a lot of families are opting for Halloween parties instead of traditional trick or treating for safety reasons.  But maybe my neighborhood just got old, without new, young families moving in.

Yeah, with the fear of COVID, the fear of violence, the fear of the dark and the fear of just about everything, the world is a whole lot different than when I was a kid and we feared nothing but not getting out in time to get as much candy as possible.
