Glad that was helpful.  It's an old idea I heard many years ago that's applicable to so much of life.

It's interesting this topic came up again. I've been listening to the nylon string instrument lately and have an urge to get one. I've been put off in the past by some of the dismal videos demonstrating the Cordoba's and Godin instrument. Recently I
have come across several that show the instrument as it really sounds. I've also been listening to Francis Kleynjans: 24 Preludes pour guitare. And I finally broke down and ordered these pieces. They should be here in a week. I hope they sound OK on a steel string instrument but if not and I sell this Martin 000-15SM I think I'll get a Godin or a Cordoba as a nylon string diversion.

I absolutely recommend the classical. IMO, it's actually a better instrument than the acoustic. The acoustic has long sustain because of the steel strings so it's easier to do less and still sound busy. On the classical, it's more dynamic/percussive so that's why classical arrangements have a lot more going on. Only the wound strings have long sustain.

The reason I personally think it's a better instrument is that nylon strings allow for much greater expression. When you use vibrato, it really comes though in an almost vocal way. It can even sound like it's weeping. Like a violin. And, the dynamics are more similar to a piano. I find that level of expression to be really rewarding.

I spend as many hours with a nylon-stringed Godin as any other guitar, both at home and in public.

I LOVE to hear and play classicals, but I'm a habitual and lifelong string-bender and that's where steel strings really come in handy over nylon.  But nothing sounds like nylon!

The Godin, I believe the Etude 2 (all solid wood) is the one I am interested in or the Cordoba C-10. I'm leaning toward the Godin because of its minimal finish and that it isn't made in China. One of my very favorite non classical nylon string albums is Unforgettable played by Joe Pass on nylon string guitar. It is a whole album of standards and all played solo. That would be great if Larrivee would build an affordable nylon string instrument. I think in the above videos that either instrument works given that they are amplified.

I bend the nylons albeit, "discretely"; not with wild abandon as on steel strings.

Hey William, did you ever get yourself a classical ?

If not, I can safely recommend a pre-Godin at least a pre-La Patrie Etude, the information is a bit murky but what I see online is Godin bought out Kamouraska. (Kamouraska is also the name of a village in Canada).

The builder of Kamouraska was Normand Boucher. That name should ring a bell as he taught his son, Claude and nephew Robin to build guitars which is now Boucher Guitars in Quebec,Canada.

I picked up an all solid cedar/ mahogany Kamouraska for less than a couple notes.

radius fretboard and 2 5/16ths spacing makes it a player and with the Boucher family knowhow it is all Tone- Tone Tone

I've had some D'Addario Folk 80/20 Bronze • Clear Nylon strings sitting around a while. When my recently purchased 2023 SD-60 arrives tomorrow I think I'll put them on my 00-40.

Let us know what you think about the 60. I'm excited for you on that one. Mine was a very ear-opening experience. Took a while for me to adjust but it really changed how I approach the acoustic guitar.
