I have seen a few references to Peruvian Walnut 03 Larrivees. Does anyone have experience with one of these? Is it a big price upgrade?

Thanks.

Hi tritonemalone. My SD is walnut, but I'm not sure it's peruvian. I think it is but I've not been told so. Anyway, it has strong clear mids, sharp clean highs that penetrate and cut through, with good low tones that can be weak and hollow, especially the fretted notes. I like it more as I continue playing it. The only competition it has is the oo-03 rosewood. I'll see if I can come up with a decent pic from this phone.

SD-03 walnut. Peruvian?  Sorry for the poor quality.

Thanks for the feedback on the walnut SD.  :nice guitar:

Are you saying your SD lacks bass? Or does it have different sounding bass?

That very much looks like Peruvian walnut. Very subtle and elegant IMHO.

No, only that it's not strong and rich like rosewood might be. It gets a little lost under the mids  and treble.

It also looks just like black walnut and it could also be that.  Black walnut is in ample supply and mostly comes from right here in the United States.  I have an SD Green Mountain guitar that is black walnut (currently for sale lefties), and you could say the low end is booming, except that you would have to say the mids and highs are booming too.  In other words, it's a very loud, articulate, and balanced guitar from lows to highs and all of it in between.
