I'm only  joking folks,   ...............  but I have to say that every time I read the Martin/Taylor/AGF/ etc etc forums , and folks are saying that..."the Martin D28 is THE best guitar",   that "the Collings guitars are in a different league", Santa Cruz and Bourgeois are "must have guitars", " Taylor 814 is divine", ...or this morning on AGF a moderator talking about an absolutely  wonderfully toned Carmel OM guitar,..... then I get overwhelmed by GAS, and I'm sure that if I lived next to a guitar dealer, I would be in there now, trying them out to see just what all the fuss was about. (do you guys suffer in the same way ?)
I guess it's the same for folks reading the thoughts of us guys waxing lyrical about our beloved Larrivees, and creating GAS for others.  I think forum users everywhere should take time to consider their influence on others, and therefore not go "over the top" when describing their instruments, and creating lustful feelings in their fellow man !
Anyway, I'm off now to have an hour playing on my.................... fabulous  ,marvellous,  sensuous,  wonderful,  must have,  silky toned,  smooth playing, comfortable, handsome ,soulful,   OMO3R    !        :roll
See y'all  later.......David     :wave

I've had so many guitars over the years (GAS is deadly!) that I now know what I like enough not to have my head turned...........
If its an acoustic and its not a Larrivee I can walk away easily enough  :bgrin:
Larrivee Custom LCJ-10-12E 'Baby Dragon' and vine-of-life inlay
Larrivee Custom C-10E 'Ddraig Bach' ('Baby Dragon')
Gibson Les Paul Historic '59
Legra custom-made Les Paul Doubleneck
1967 Shaftesbury LP Black Beauty copy now with Bareknuckle humbuckers and 1959 spec wiring loom.

I have to give THIS particular guitar forum huge kudo's for the "other guitar makers" section.
(mind you I'm not on other forums, so maybe they all do that).

besides GAS, I find it curious as to how we end up owning particular guitars and for what reasons.

I just happen to play Larrivee guitars for a living, and have, pretty much since 1972.
So I'm biased, for all kinds of reasons.
But like others, I own and play other brands of guitars.

Some like OM's, some like parlours, some like Martin's, some like Gibsons, some like light strings, some like mediums....

This particular forum has been a great help to me, partcularily with the constant kind and friendly advice folks around here can give to other member's questions, sans attitude.

Too many guitars to list here.
Too few brain cells to be bothered with...

Think of how badly  WE  (guitar community) could affect the gross national product, sales, sales taxes, etc. by our buying all the wonderful instruments we do.
Fortunately most of us do have that case of GAS almost as soon as we get the guitar we just got, the guitar we HAD to have, and before we got it, we swore to our spouse this would be THE hate to think we ever said "last" guitar we would ever buy.

It's cheaper than going to Fantasy World at Disney, or a daily trip to GC or Sam A, so just keep a good case of GAS and DO NOT read the forums when you have "the fever".

How could you measure the impact of

  • the internet on guitar sales
  • this forum on Larrivée sales

I think the sample size is too small to be valid but I am quite sure hanging out here regularly (if not prolifically)
led me to buy the last five Larrivée guitars I acquired.

Tally:
Owned and in my possession when I got here:  2
Bought since I got here: 5

I still have the 2 that I had when I got here but sold 1 of the latter 5.  Now that I look at that... it seems a little odd.  I was very happy with original 2 although I only played 1 regularly.

Today, now that I'm playing out more, I have a clearer sense of what I would play out, and what I play regularly that does not travel, I think that I could reduce lumber pile to just 2 without too much regret.

I'm just not into all the interaction that it takes to sell stuff.

In this moment of holding myself accountable, I think that my gear lust has led to some needless churn.

I've had some turnover with my electric guitars, but the net number has gone down by 4 in the same time period. I probably play more electric than acoustic.  But I don't hang out in electric guitar forums. I wonder if there is a correlation there.

I listed a dozen Larrivees above. I have two currently and the one shown here is on its birthday four years ago at the Vancouver Larrivee facility.

Let's see..     When I joined I had 1 on order.  Since then I have bought 3 more for a total of 4.    All were a direct result of hanging out here on this forum,.      Bad forum.  shame on you.

:+1: :+1: :+1:  Profound thinking.... Perhaps a cure for GAS but the side effects are not acceptable...

Since joining I have bought 3 Larrivee's -- Love the OO-03r & the Forum-III,  the parlor just did not work for me... Have sold everything else.... it's hard enough deciding which one of them to play  :bgrin:

Would definitely miss the great folks who visit here regularly... Bobw...  :guitar

The members of this forum have taught me many things about my own guitars that I didn't know.

This forum has allowed me to share my long and personal history with Larrivee (sine 1971).

I have TOTALLY lost count of how many Larrivee guitars I have owned- presently its 6 or 7.

Because of this forum and the knowledge base that comes with, my most recent purchases are more thought out and calculated.

The simple fact that other owner/players hang here, and can coment, show pics, or tell stories, rant, what ever is kinda cool.
