I'm not strongly opinionated about it. But I do see it as affirmation of the organic source material itself. It adds uniqueness and, yes, I'll say it, character to the instrument.

btw, any post that talks about another Larrivee catches my attention. Congrats. Be sure to post pictures when it arrives.

Bear claw is just like haring bone: doesn't make the guitar play better (imo) but (for some) it sure looks nice.

It's my second favorite donut besides the apple fritter!  ba dum tsk!  :humour:

On a more serious note, I prefer a nice silky plain spruce top but I'm not against bearclaw at all.

I really like when it occurs very heavily and symmetrically.
When it's really sparse and asymmetrical, it can look okay, but imo usually feels visually off balance.
think about book matching a flame maple back: It's beautiful because its both natural, random, and very organic as well as very purposefully symmetrical and delineated.

That is a lot of claws! Not too sure if i like the looks of it, but it is certainly unique!

My first Larrivee was a LV-03R Bearclaw. I liked it a whole lot.

I like it a lot - it's like a beautiful natural design for me. And given that Dana Bourgeois has said it suggests a stiffer top, which may in turn indicate improved sound, I would be even more favorably disposed to a guitar I was considering buying if it had some bearclaw.

Love Bearclaw:

It's a little odd, but I find this forum ( so far) to be the most accepting of bearclaw.  Though many people do love it, Im suprised to see how many detractors it has on other sites.  :donut

I was told the same thing at the Larrivee shop.

I had an OM03/12 string that had a lot of bearclaw for that matter I've had afew guitars with it.Right now I have none with it.I do like though.

That's compelling evidence indeed - two top makers vouching for bearclaw.

I really like it.

That is amazing - love it.

Overall, I wouldn't seek bearclaw out, or place an order for it. I have a few slight bearclaw lines in the Italian Spruce on my D-03IS. Midway between the bridge and the bottom of the body - hard to see in these pics.

I don't like a lot of it. But a little here and there certainly adds character.
