Seems I remember several positive comments on the forum over the years regarding visits to Guitar Tex in San Antonio. My wife and I are heading there tomorrow, 3/6/25 for a 5 day get-away from the Michigan winter doldrums. We'll be staying in the Riverwalk district, but the shop is less than 5 miles away according to G maps. Just wondering if it's worth the visit; it's not like I haven't been in a guitar shop or twelve, but a thumbs up or two would be appreciated. Also open to any suggestions for live music venues along the Riverwalk. TIA  :whistling:

It's been a while since I've been there, 3.5 hr drive from north Houston.

It's a great little shop with knowledgable folk. If you're that close by, then I'd suggest a visit.

Rich, you should for sure visit Guitar Tex.
It is stupid easy to get to from downtown.
Maybe I can get there when you think you might go. I'm not that far away.
I will send a PM with some contact info, so you can text me if you want.
Oh, and the weather is going to be great while you are in SA.

Haha...do you mean even stupid guys can get there?  :beer That's a very kind gesture on your part, and I'd really like to at least shake your hand for all the work you put in on our Forum V beauties! It'd be either Friday or Saturday, whichever works for you. The Mrs. is down with a guitar shop visit!! Hope we can pull it off!

Friday, there will be less store traffic. It is not a large store but you will be surprised how much they pack in there. They open at 10 AM.

FWIW, if you ever get a chance to visit Guitar Tex in San Antonio, DO IT!!! Better yet, if you get to do it with Mike in Lytle, DOUBLE DO IT!!! Great shop, great guy, and the owner and store staff are amazing. They have some amazing Larrivee guitars in inventory, as well as several others. I'm still drooling over the 000-40 Italian Spruce & Koa  :nice guitar:

Glad you had a good time. They've got some nice inventory and I have to admit that the 1955 Martin 00-17 also caught my eye too.

I got to meet Mr. and Mrs. Riverbend at Guitar Tex last Friday on their short vacation to warmer weather. The store was not real busy and the entire staff was there, so there was a lot of guitar picking by Richard as well as time to just talk which is really the best part. Richard and Karen are outgoing and great visitors. The store staff were not shy either. It was a bunch of smart people having a good time with nice guitars being passed around and good stories told for more than two hours. The Guitar Tex staff were very appreciative of the visit.
I was happy myself because I got to meet a forum member who lives 1500 miles away and I was glad I did.

Funny little story related to this that I wanted to share. Sunday was our last day in San Antonio, and about 7:00 PM my wife and I wandered down to the hotel bar. The bar is mostly open air but has a large adjacent lounge area. We got talking to another couple there and I mentioned what a great time we'd had at Guitar Tex's shop. It wasn't long after that he went to their room and brought back his really nice Taylor 300 guitar. They were from Indiana but winter near Houston, and he plays out every other weekend when they're home. So we traded songs on that Taylor for over two hours, just having a really fun time and singing and playing like we owned the place. I, of course, encouraged him to visit Guitar Tex before they headed back to Houston. My wife just got a message and short video from the wife showing her husband playing his new Larrivee! It wasn't the 000-40, I know that much, and I'm not sure what he bought. Another happy convert!

I just found out it was the LV-03 silver oak. Very nice guitar.
