interior patch on upper bout?

My OM-03SP has a curious dark,(wood?), patch in the interior on the upper bout bass side which I just noticed. Is this commonplace practice from the factory? It does not look like it is a repair, there are no cracks and the guitar came to me in mint condition from Gryphon. It's done so perfectly it appears to be original to the instrument....anybody??

Reinforcement where they might install electronics - it's easier and cheaper to put them in all the bodies than to keep track of which ones have it and which don't. I even had a guitar that had the patch installed for installation of electronics for a lefty, but the guitar was finished a righty -

Could always cut a soundport in there -

PS - its "fabric", not wood -
Bunch of Larrivees - all good -
and a wife that still puts up with me, which is the best -

Well that explains it alright, and thanks!
P.S. don't do electronics or soundports-just an old fashioned dude :arrow

I was a bit surprised to see the patch in my OM-60, too, but figured out what it was and then found quite a few posts about it.  Guess it surprises a lot of people at first.

Ah, the patch. My former P-09 had one (on the wrong side as I am a lefty!). My new P-05 has NO patch, so go figure.

Maybe we should institute a "don't ask, don't tell" policy..... :rolleye:

^ haha. good idea....

ya I have one of these in my OO, and let me tell you...if electronics were cut into the wood of this guitar 1) i wouldn't of bought it and 2) it would have been a travesty.
